The wet filter is needed when vacuuming water. I gave this a poor value because it is not included when purchasing a WET/DRY Vac. This is just dumb. I have owned my vac for over a year and really like it. It is my third purchase of rigid vacs. My wife used my vac to remove some water and ruined the twenty plus dollar filter that I use for vacuuming sheet rock dust. Rigid should not sell a vac for wet/dry applications and not include this filter. You have to have this for vacuuming water.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by William Important addition to wet vac usage
The filter fit in place of the dry filter and is well constructed to filter out sediment and large particles when using as a wet vac. Easy to remove and clean.

If you own a wet dry vac this foam filter is a must. I made a mistake and used my pleated paper filter to vacuum up water. I did not ruin my paper filter but it is not the best method since paper absorbs water. I bought this foam filter designed for water and now I switch filters when needed between wet and dry tasks. This is the best way to keep both the filters and the vac in good condition.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by EZgoing A NEEDED item if you vacuum liquids
Back in the 'good ole days', when you bought a 'WET-dry vacuum', items like this, that allow you to actually vacuum the darn liquids, was INCLUDED with the vacuum... I really feel for those that do not do their research beforehand and have to make another trip back to the store to pick up one of these filters, especially if they are in an emergency situation... But, I guess that's just me... I guess I'd be considered 'old school'.. lol
Anyway, the filter is a much NEEDED item if you own a wet-dry vacuum. It allows you to actually use the 'wet' portion of the title on the vacuum. DO NOT try to vacuum any liquids with out one of these filters. A LOT more moisture winds up in the vacuum head, and will eventually destroy it. The wet filter is easy to install and to clean when need be. I've always washed mine out in a deep sink or with a garden hose, with something less than 'full pressure' of the water flow.
One 'tip', once your done picking up your liquids, and you have cleaned out the tank and this filter, leave the top of the vacuum off for a day or so and allow this filter and the tank to completely dry, before putting everything away. Moisture in a dark (with the vacuum put together) area can cause some nasty molds to grow which will leave you with another 'chore' of cleaning it all out again, and this time with some mild bleach, when you want-need to use it the next time... All I'll say is that 'experience is a really GOOD teacher"......
