Answer:
It might. But only for a few minutes at a time.
You will need to have the larger 4Ah battery, otherwise you might be able to cut one limb before taking a break to let the battery cool down before you can move on to the next limb.

It's actually only $99 now but only comes with the saw.
If you have any older batteries (other than the newer 4Ah battery) then they will not function properly under a normal moderate load after a few minutes of operation. I know this of experience.

This unit only comes with the saw and one blade. You will need to provide batteries and a charger seperately. In my case I bought the exceptional X4 drill/driver/hammer drill which comes with two high capacity batteries and charger. The batteries are interchangeable with the reciprocating saw you queried. Those two power units and two batteries are a very useful and an exceptional pairing.

Not unless you buy the tool, battery, charger kit (R8641K).
However, if you buy the kit, the battery won't work under moderate to heavy loads unless you buy the bigger 4Ah battery which does not come in the current x4 kits.
For further information, see my full review of this tool and my poor experience in troubleshooting my issue with this tool and battery combination.

I just recently figured this out when I bought a special 2 pack of 4.0amp batteries and went to register them and to my dismay found out that they were only covered under a 3 year warranty. After listening to the free parts free service FREE BATTERIES FOR LIFE slogan over and over I was sorely disappointed to find out that batteries are only cover by the lifetime warranty if they come in a kit. Batteries bought separate from a kit only have a 3 year warranty. This upset me since I had 2 older batteries crack around the bolts that hold the top of the battery on and they batteries fell apart, I had this problem with 2 of my older batteries. Read Less

Well, to be exact, you will have to register the new battery and tools (each separately) over the phone or online in order to (possibly) get their lifetime warranty.
SPECIAL NOTE: You will need to buy the 4Ah battery (R840087) for $100 in order to use this Recip Saw (R8641) and the Circ Saw (R8651).
Even though the kit (R8641K) actually comes with the battery that you question, it will not work for over a few minutes UNLESS you are cutting some light plastic or cloth, then it might work!
See my review on the whole time consuming process that I had to go through in order to troubleshoot their own product because I got the run around when I first contacted the Ridgid Service Center. Read Less

I use those batteries interchangeably with the X4 reciprocating saw (which was given a very heavy workout today). But you are asking if those batteries bought separately also would receive a lifetime warranty. That I do not know, but those batteries do have serial numbers so it is possible. I'd look at the packaging on the batteries to see if they promote the lifetime warranty. You can of course call Ridgid and ask that simple question. Their customer service was very receptive from my one experience calling them. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best deal going Purchased this X4 18-Volt Cordless Reciprocating Saw for a remote build. Was surprised at the power and run time. Cut through 2x6 ,2x4 and several tree limbs 6" in diameter with ease.Battery recharge is very fast. July 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great tool, very handy w/ portable battery.. uses a lot of battery power Tool works great. Uses a lot of portable battery power though. Would recommend having 2 18V batteries on hand or buying the plug in one. I work on houses that do not have power so battery power was a must, but if plug in power is not an issue I would recommend the plug in unit, especially for larger jobs that require a lot of cutting b/c it goes through the 18V battery quickly. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best cordless saw The battery is powerful to cut through toughmaterials, and holds up for a long time. No need to buy a spare battery unless you are spending a whole day in construction projects. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great Rigid Tool Bought this to cut up and debris and it works great. Came with a decent blade, but would prefer one that is a little more sturdy for the heavy duty jobs. Didn't come with a battery or charger, but I had two on hand from another Rigid purchase. Battery life gave me a good 30-45 minutes of continuous use and the charge is quick so was able to swap out and continue using fairly regularly. Solid construction of the body and works well, can't ask for much more. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best cordless recip I've used This recip is a work horse. Bought it to cut up an old out house on the property and on 3 charges with the 1.5 amp/hrs battery! I was able to get it done. Later I upgraded to 4.0 and believe me, this transformed the saw into a great option when your not near an outlet. It well worth the money best part is the safety is simple on/off option! June 7, 2016
