Answer:
Yes both have variable speed controlled by the trigger. I don't have the tool in my hand but if my memory serves there are two small but bright led's on the front of the battery portion. The lights come on if you squeeze the trigger or push the button lower on the front of the handle. The lights stay on for about 8-10 seconds.

Answer:
The 4 AH batteries do take abit longer but less than an hour and they have the power with the drill or impact driver to go many hours of use with these 4AH batteries. So unless your using the grinder or saws with the 4AH batteries, your battery life will probably outlast most folks working for the day unless your a Full time contactoring using them all day long..

battery charge time is kind of long. Because they are high capacity 4.0 Amp Hour batteries they take longer to charge. I found mine take about 60 min +/- 15 min depending on the battery level before charging. On the flip side they last a lot longer than lower Amp Hour batteries.

The R9200 combo-kits R840093 charger charges 18V compact batteries in approximately 20 minutes, and larger capacity battery packs like the included 4.0 Ah battery, in around 45 minutes.

X4 18-Volt Hyper Lithium-Ion Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver and Impact Driver Combo Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 111.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice set I love this set, have had it for about 2 years now and love to reach for either unit. The lights are convenient and well placed, the handles feel good, and the battery indicators are great for telling how much life you have left in the battery. I always thought a drill was fine for everything, that a driver was a waste of time, but after using this one I'm hooked -- I only use the drill for big holes now. The driver has a hammer action that keeps the bits from stripping out the screw heads, and it has great torque (just cranked in 16 half-inch by 6" lag bolts with it -- the holes were pre-drilled, but it still impressed me). The units are so light, partly because the Li-ion batteries are so light compared to Ni-Cad -- the first time I picked one of the batteries up I thought it was empty. The only things I can think of to complain about is that the driver only has a holder for a single bit, but I usually have to switch between 3 or 4 bits, so I had to design/build my own bit holder to attach to the side. Also that the variable speed triggers seem to not be as smoothly variable as I'd like, though I do otherwise like the feel. I used to be a DeWalt guy, but after my brand new 18V blew out its gears I thought I'd try the Ridgid and am glad I did. I got the DeWalt fixed, but it feels cheap next to the Ridgid which I reach for first. I bought the rest of the 18V tools and they're very nice as well. (Circular saw has a weird issue with tightening the baseplate depth at low angles, but otherwise very well made. Sawsall is perfect.) Most of Ridgid's stuff is nice (bandsaw is probably the worst one). (I don't have any connection to Ridgid, btw., just a weekend warrior with a Home Depot close by.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ridgid Power tools are Great. I have been buying Ridgid battery tools for years now. I bought this set for the Batteries. I wanted the 4 AMP Batteries, which usually don't come in the other sets, and must be bought separately. I am a General Contractor, building houses, and Ridgid tools work GREAT for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product but Warranty Issues I have researched for a month online and in store at the Home Depot the 18-volt and 20-volt cordless power tools before pulling the trigger on a purchase. During a sale Home Depot was having I almost got the 20-volt Dewalt combo kit, but did not, due to the limited 3yr warranty on them. I've had cordless power tools in the past, the Craftsman 9.6-volt, and when the batteries died on them I never used them again. The batteries are where it gets expensive when your having to replace them, some times over $100 a battery. This is the main reason I didn’t get the Dewalt set and went with the Ridgid combo kit instead. I will say I'm extremely glad I made this decision. The Life Time Warranty was a huge selling point! After getting this combo kit along with the 1/2" Impact Wrench for Christmas 2014, I have been using these tools almost every day since getting them. I will say my corded Dewalt drill has become obsolete now. The hammer drill is my favorite and it's what I've used the most so far. It has great torque and is very light. The lights are well placed on the drill and come in very handy. I used this for many different jobs so far but did have to use my 1/2" impact wrench for a stubborn cab bolt for a truck. Even the impact wrench didn't get it loose so I did have to resort to my air impact gun which did do the job. I have not used either hammer drill or impact wrench on any vehicle lug nuts yet, which I'm excited to try soon. So far so good though. The impact driver has different speeds which is nice and did a good job for what I needed it to do. One major downfall I have been seeing is the battery life though. I have been needing to charge these batteries almost on a daily basis. The first day I used it I needed to charge them both. After a full recharge on both I was able to get another full day of use out of the both of them. I'm not using these crazy hours either, maybe 8 hours tops that first day, other then that only 3 hours tops. I think I've used them a total of 10 times if that and have already recharged each battery 3 or 4 times now. I'm glad they give 2 batteries in the combo kit because they take a good 40+ minutes or so to charge due to them being the larger 4 amp batteries. Now onto the Life Time Warranty which is the real reason why I went with this combo. First off I had an issue on Ridgid's website trying to create a user name. It kept telling me my email was invalid, why, I have no idea. I use this same email for everything. I had to call Ridgid and the woman I spoke with had to set me up on her end. After finally getting my new account setup, I was able to log in and start the warranty process. Make sure if you get these as a gift that you get the receipt and keep the boxes each tool comes in, you may need the UPC codes like I did. For what ever reason my 2 batteries and charger's serial numbers did not match what came across on the Ridgid website. All my power tools matched fine though. This package was not opened or anything like that where someone may have swapped something and returned it. Everything I took out of the box was brand new. Either way I entered the serial numbers from my batteries and charger and submitted my warranty. A few weeks later Ridgid emailed me stating I would need to send in my original receipt, both UPC codes from each box and the letter from the email they sent me. I just sent out all the info they asked for today and pictures that they didn't ask for to prove the serial numbers. It cost me $10 just to do this because they want it certified mail, so I'm hoping they accept everything under their Life Time Warranty. I still would recommend this product to anyone looking for a new cordless combo set. Overall I really like the look, feel, weight and durability of the Ridgid products. And that Life Time Warranty as long as it goes though will be a life saver come time when you need to replace each $100 battery for free. Take it from me, reviews are a huge deciding factor for me. I wanted to be honest and not just give a short, “It’s great” review, so I hope this helps some people out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blew away my expectations When I bought my first house I decided to upgrade the 10 year old drill I had and bought this set. These drills are amazing. The build is top quality and extremely powerful. But what really impressed me the most was the batteries! These 4.0Ah batteries last forever. My first recharge was maybe 6 months after the first charge! I would say i use them for typical household duties but with a new house they were used relatively frequently. At just over a year I might almost be getting ready for their 2nd recharge. I am sticking with the Ridgid product line for future purchases and the lifetime warranty can't be beat. The big battery does make it on the heavier side but hasn't been an issue yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Ridgid combo kit was stolen, so i bought another. My last Ridgid combo kit was stolen a few months ago. So I shopped around and looked at the computers. DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, and I ended up back with Ridgid. I chose this kit because of the 4amp hour batteries. If you plan on working, get the 4amp hour batteries. DeWalt has 20volt written on their battery packs bit if you read the fine print, they are 3amp hour packs with 18v normal voltage with 20v max output.as far as power and runtime, I haven't found better. I like the light placement for driving screws. The hammer drill blows through concrete with the correct bit. And the impact driver is the fastest way to drive screws and lag bolts. Also, the price is right. This is a premium tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Buy Was looking for a new drill set to replace my old one that I gave to my son. Liked the Ridgid and one other brand. Impressed with the warranty of Rigdid plus I found a discontinued set that was marked down from 279.99 to 140.00 and decided that I could not pass up such a deal I am extremely happy with the handling and performance of this product

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ridgid Drill I bought a single ridgid drill two years ago and absolutely loved it. After it was stolen i immediately went ans purchased this drill and its just as amazing as the former. Will be sticking with ridgid tools for as long as i'm working construction and then even still after for home tools.
