Answer:
Not really. The tool will get it done but a drill with a hammer feature will be more effective. If you have a lot of holes to drill, go rent a Hilti hammer drill and you be done in no time. Trust me on this.

Answer:
This is an impact driver, for driving screws. What you're looking for is a hammer drill, and a cordless one will work adequately for 1/4" holes for Tapcons or lag shields.

Answer:
No, for heavy work and a tool that will last under that kind of load you're going to want at least a corded drill. You can use your Ridgid, but it will be a lot of stress on the motor and you will need multiple charges on the batteries to get it done. Also because you're using an impact driver you're likely to snap quite a few bits in the process.

Answer:
Hi Brown,
It seems that you have the terms "impact" and "hammer" confused.
This is an impact driver that delivers superior torque while turning.
Drilling into masonry products requires a hammer drill that actually taps or hammers on the drill bit as it rotates to pound it through the cement.
You will need a "Hammer Drill" for your blocks.
Thank you for asking.

I don't know if this is the case, please try the Rigid website for more information. My personal solution is a little different. Since all of my purchased product uses the same battery, I just substitute the battery from another Ridgid product. Problem solved.

Answer:
This impact driver does not have a hand tighten chuck. It has a 1/4" snap-in chuck for screw or bolt bits only. Perhaps you should consider the Ridgid Drill/Driver that has the hand tighten chuck on it.

Hi jimchan, Unfortunately you will not be able to use a different chuck for this impact. However, you can use various bits as long as they have a 3/8 hex shank. Sorry for any inconvenience.

X4 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 1/4 in. Cordless Impact Driver Kit is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 188.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great tool and warranty, but just a moment... My issue is not with Home Depot, but with One World Technologies, the parent corporation of Ridgid and Ryobi...here's why. I bought the previous generation of this driver in December, 2011 and have been very happy with it. Recently my batteries are not holding a charge so I decided to try out the LSA only to find out I have to send back the entire kit in order to take advantage of the warranty. I work for a mechanical contractor and need my tools. Guess I was supposed to buy two of these and keep one on the shelf in case the other went down. Great warranty but they make you go thru heck to take advantage of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from complete redo of the X3 (the previous model) This drill is a complete redo of the X3 line it replaces. The batteries have better cooling and technology to make them last longer in performance and life. I used it with a unibit to drill 60 1/4" holes through steel studs and 42 1/2" holes through drywall and steel backing right out of the box without charging the battery and according to the battery gage i still had more juice in the battery! My 18v fuego compact couldn't do 1/8 of that on a battery! The new grip also reduces hand fatigue better than the previous model. It does come with a lifetime warranty if you register it CORRECTLY, which means cutting out the barcode off the box and mailing that in with a copy of the receipt to ridgid as well as registering it online. If you don't do BOTH of those steps you WILL NOT HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY!!! This drill is incredible!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact design at a Great Value!!! First I will say that I was a .loyal Dewalt user. I am a Diesel/Automotive mechanic by trade. It was the product guarantee that encouraged me to try the Ridgid products. If a company is willing to give a lifetime replacement on there product then it would be foolish to not give them a try. I bought the combo kit of drill and driver about a year ago. I use the driver every day in my line of work. Small nuts and bolts don't stand a chance with this powerhouse. The compact design allows easy access in tight areas that I was unable to reach before. I am very pleased with Ridgid line and will purchase exclusively Ridgid from now on. Thank you for a Great Product Ridgid!!! Eric

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than anything else on the market I recently was part of a volunteer group who built a playground for children. It had all of those really cool Trex boards everywhere as well as regular lumber. We used these Ridgid 1/4 inch impact drivers to run in several thousand 3" screws. In use constantly each day for roughly 12 hours. Batteries stayed up. While others used cordless drills with bits in them, and stripped out the heads of more than half of what they tried to put in. Not only did the Ridgid Impact Driver not strip screws, many times, we took out the screws stripped by those using an ordinary cordless drill. You have to use this driver for yourself to see how good it really is.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great warranty, if you can wade through the paper work. This is more a review of the lifetime warranty, than the driver itself. I submitted the warranty info online, and it was rejected after a few weeks. Now I need to send a hard copy to Rigid so they can try again. They recommend it be sent registered mail, so I have proof that I sent it. If it gets lost I need to provide proof that I sent it in the first place, and resubmit copys of my original paperwork again. This all needs to happen in a 90 day period, or there is no lifetime warranty. I guess if you make it difficult, not many people will bother to apply. I like the tools Rigid makes, but their customer service is lousy. I have considered returning the tool because of this, and I haven't even used it yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No tool box is complete without it! Started construction over 15 years ago and ive seen alotta tools come and go. This is a must have for the weekend warriors and the people running em every day! Solid design, independant light switch, belt clip, hex grip which makes for a very comfy handle. *the hex grip does wear down after alotta use BUT the impact keeps laughing at what ever comes it way. If this impact driver could make cuts id have way more room in the tool box! For anyone that hasnt used an impact i suggest you take a trip to your local home depot and try one of the displays they have, most have a wood bench you can drive some screws into. while your testing this product dont use any force just let the impact do the work it is honestly effortless compaired to your traditional drill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product, Super Warranty, Why Wait I finally purchased this impact driver. I had researched over a dozen, and this looked like the best deal for the money. Most of the others will offer up to a 3 yr. warranty, but Ridgid goes beyond that. Theirs is a Lifetime Service Agreement, and it even covers the battery. When I took it out of the box, it looked solid. I charged the battery for an hour, then put it to work. My daughter was adding a room in her basement. I drove over 100, 3" screws and 25 Tap-con concrete anchors. The battery didn't even show any discharge. In the past when I built walls, I always seemed to strip out a screw here and there, but not a one was stripped on this project. One of these reviews stated that there was no variable speed, and I was worried that I'd snap off screws with that much torque and just on / off. This one does have variable speed. The advertised torque is 1400 inch lbs. That's over 115 foot lbs. A car tire is only torqued to 100 ft lbs normally. All I can say is how come I waited so long to buy one. All the home improvement shows rave about these, and I know I'll never drive a screw with a regular screwgun again. Definitely a "must-have" tool.
