Answer:
Initial charge give it 12hrs minimum, 24hr is better. The larger the battery (more AH rating), the longer to charge. After use, it takes 20min to recharge and you are ready to go again- that is less time than it takes to deplete the freshly charged battery!

Answer:
The biggest benefit of brushless motors is increased efficiency, which provides longer run time per battery charge.

The primary difference to you as an owner is, less maintenance, and more troublefree operation. The primary difference to you as an owner is, less maintenance, and more troublefree operation. Think of the brushless motor as an equivalent to electronic ignition in your car (vs old points, rotor, condenser). The brushes do not wear away => needing replacement and adjustment, the commutator does not burn and pit from the arcing => throwaway, and the brushes will not hangup after sitting idle for long periods of time => cleaning/disassembly. Basically it is a change for the better (not just pretty like most changes made) and troublefree operation for the life of the tool = less cost of ownership. It is a good system with very little downside other than price(v. little$). Read Less

I don't know the technical answer, but I assume its just the advent of newer technology. The tools run strong and batteries recharge very quickly, that's 100% of what I need. Like being up in the woods drilling and driving screws into hard oak planks...

The drill component is just a cordless drill with an adjustable chuck like you would expect. However, I have used it to drive screws on occasion. The driver component takes hex bits.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT BUY THIS COMBO KIT I bought this kit because of the lifetime guarantee. I have used several different brands of impact drivers and NEVER have I had as much of a problem than what I have had with this one. The tip bounces out of screws all the time. I'm not sure if it's because the hammer action kicks in so soon or if the hammer action is unnecessarily hard. Because of this bouncing I have gone through way too many screw bits and injured my hand several times. In the past 10 years I haven't had as many issues as I have in the past 3 months of owning this impact drive. The drill is OK with the exception of a slight hesitation when I hit the trigger that makes me think (for a split second) that the battery is dead. This hesitation only happens once the LED goes out. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Top quality tools for hard working man Purchase this X4 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit. Needed tough dependable cordless tools for a remote build. Sales staff directed me to the Ridgid display. After explaining was they are better than the rest I was sold ! July 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Ridgid Drill combo purchase First of all the tool quality is good, charges fast, plenty of power. The light is bright and useful. I would like the light to be able to be switched off when not needed. I did read some complaints where the light had got stuck on but have not experienced that yet. The process to get the lifetime service agreement activated was frustrating beyond comprehension. Way too many hoops to jump through. They do offer a great standard warranty- 3 years, but the lifetime service agreement covers everything including batteries. The LSA is my principle reason for purchasing the tool. May 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by best I ever owned Bought this two weeks ago and tore down and restored a deck. I was surprised at the power of both the drill and driver. Drove in 3/8 by 4 inch lag screws with no problems. Had to buy a converter bit to fit my 9/16 socket. I also tried it on 13/16 lug nuts on my car. Worked on that also. These are much better than my old Dewalt set. This whole set was cheaper than buying two Dewalt batteries. Love the small size for getting into small spaces like cabinets. Also very light weight compared to my Dewalt. Wish I would have spent a few bucks more and got the even more powerful brushless set. August 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best cordless I,ve ever used! The drill and driver are very easy to use, batterys charge quickly. The abuse and punishment I,ve put these through would have distroyed other products. Dropped both several times, the drill and driver come through it working fine, and the batteries come through it with no problem at a Any one that uses their cordless alot, like I do will really like this product. I got rid of my corded drill and have never looked back. Best cordless combo on Earth! August 13, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tools good, batteries don't last long Batteries don't last as long as my weakened 18v NiCd dewalt set that I purchased this to replace. The first battery doesn't even finish recharging before the second battery runs out. This is an awesome set for mild use to save money, but if your projects required extended use, your going to experience down time waiting for batteries to recharge. I will be returning this set for the 259 set with the bigger batteries. Yes I could buy bigger batteries for the extra 100 dollars saved purchasing this set, but why not buy the next generation, higher quality, more capable set, with bigger batteries in the first place. These are good tools, so I will recommend them, just know the batteries don't last long July 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best combo for the money Works great, have already used on 2 difference project and worked better than expected. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RIGID Drill Driver Combo I have only had this drill and drill driver a few weeks and they have already proven themselves to be superior devices. Never wanted a cordless device but was talked into it by a need where cords were very difficult to use. Great torque from both devices and one battery charge lasts a long time. The final great issue is the lifetime warranty. Even the batteries are included in the warranty. WOW! August 16, 2016
