Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great for digging up sprinkler pipes in lawn (light duty) I needed to repair a damaged sprinkler pipe that was buried over 12" deep. The soil was very hard and compacted and full of rocks. A spade shovel was barely able to get through the grass and about 3" into the dirt (with difficulty and very slow), so I bought this pick mattock to help dig the rest of the trench. The helper I hired picked up this tool and went to work like a surgeon, using the flat blade to cut out a strip of grass and then carefully dig out the trench to get to the broken pipe. It would have taken many times longer to try and dig out the dirt using a shovel so I'm very, very glad I purchased it. Huge time saver breaking up the hard dirt. We did not use it on big rocks, big roots, or stumps, so I can't attest to its strength in those situations, but for trenching on a lawn, it worked great. Based on the reviews saying the handle broke, I'll only use it for lighter duty jobs like this. But it should work perfectly fine for lawn and garden tasks where the dirt is too hard for a shovel or trowel, or you need to make a narrow trench. The price seems very reasonable for the tool and I was happy to pay it after jumping up and down on a shovel trying to dig out the dirt. July 18, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap Sounds like mine lasted longer than some others in the reviews but my handle also broke. Have had it for 6 months but only second time using it. First time it did a great job but 3/4 of the way through digging a trench it snapped. October 21, 2015
