Good design, but i purchased a 3/4" 14npt pipe tap to retap one barrel for tje spigot. I also used the same tap for the overflow where i screwed in a close nipple on which i attached a 1" ID hose to lead the overflow away from the barrel location. As you can see i also added a ball valve to the hose leading to the barrel where i just allow the flow to spill through the barrel screen. After the rain has stopped and the barrels are full, i turn the ball valve to the off position so all the next rain runs down the original down spout. I noticed that the diverter spilled alot of water during heavy rains which to me meant that the internal opening to divert the water down the spout was to small so it just spilled out of the space where the two halves met. I fixed this by adding 1" tape around the top of the bottom half of the diverter thus raising the height of the internal wall which in essence added another inch in height of opening to the internal opening for water to run down the spout. This fixed the water leaking problem. So with these modifications the two barrels work perfectly. See attached photo.

As others have said before, it is difficult to thread the spigot into the drilled and tapped hole. I've attached a close-up shot of the hole as received. It looks like their drilling is probably done too fast and created a lot of chatter and poor threads. This made it really difficult to get the spigot to go in straight and even then it leaked. Time and patience worked to get it straight, and a little Teflon tape patched the leak right up. It's sitting in my backyard right now with a full tank of water and not a drop is dripping.
The back does bulge out a couple inches, but this really doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
I used an Oatey rain diverter from Home Depot for $20 and after one moderate rainfall the barrel was full. The open top makes it easy to inspect and clean as well as modify. I drilled two additional ports in the side, one at the bottom and one at the top, and connected with clear tube. Sealed up with waterproof sealant. Makes for a nice fluid level gauge so I don't have to climb up and look in the top all the time. I mounted my barrel on a 2' tall stand I built out of 2x4s and it has plenty of flow to hit my flower beds.
Very satisfied so far and will likely purchase another next year. More attention needs paid to the small details, but I have no doubt this thing will earn its keep in water savings.

Good design. The flat back made it easy to fit in. Seems to have strong enough walls. The quality of the product was average. The two halves did not fit well on one of the three barrels I bought. Means that it is harder to fit the (optional) connecting pipe across barrels. It is not easy to get the brass spigot threaded straight, even when following the recommendation of placing the barrel flat on the ground. I had to use a 3/4" tap to improve the cut of the threads.
I am happy with the final installation. Looks good.

Very rugged and works well. Designed for roofs with gutters, which our house does not have. However, I purchased the plastic gutter material from Home Depot and installed them with all the fittings from Home Depot.

Because the rain barrels have the sides shaped to fit the sides the house wall, they are less intrusive
With my (4) 55 gallon rain barrels, which I connected in sequence I am now able to capture 220 gallons of water at a time. I also elevated them 3 cinder blocks high so that I am also able to direct the water into the pool by leaving a garden hose connected to the 4th barrel so as not to lose any water once the 4 barrels are filled to capacity.

THIS BARREL WAS POORLY DESIGNED. THE MOUTH FOR COLLECTING THE RAIN WATER IS FLAT AND NARROW. THIS CREATE SLOW AND MINIMUM WATER COLLECTION. ALSO THE SPOUT IS LOCATED IN A BAD SPOT. ITS TO LOW TO THE GROUND AND IT MAKES IT HARD TO EXTRACT THE WATER. THE CITY OF CHICAGO WILL PROVIDE FREE OF CHARGE UP TO 4-50 GALLON BARRELS TO RESIDENTS. THE BARRELS ARE WELL DESIGNED FOR WATER COLLECTION. THE MOUTH IS SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN THE SURFACE OF THE TOP ALLOWING RAPID WATER COLLECTION & THE MOUTH IS WIDE ALLOWING GOOD COLLECTION OF RAIN WATER. I HAVE HAD THIS PRODUCT FOR 2 YEARS AND I HAVE COLLECTED LESS THAN 2 GALLONS OF WATER. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE 4 FROM THE CITY RECEIVED IN OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR I COLLECTED ALMOST A HALF OF A BARREL OF RAIN WATER IN EACH.

We're pleased with the barrel. It's well constructed and meets our expectations. Installing the spigot was a little tricky -- the threads are only molded plastic, so use care - and definitely lay the barrel flat as directed.
