Answer:
Only the screen is removable. The rest of the barrel is one molded piece. I can fit up to the mid section of my forearm through the screen opening so I would be careful not to drop anything inside if you want to avoid flipping the whole thing over.
You won't be able to get in there to do any cleaning or alterations.

Answer:
The small screen on top of the barrel is approximately 4" x 12" and can be removed. This good size rectangle hole which can be used to wash out the barrel or to see how full of rain water is being stored/used. There is a slight slant to the top of the barrel also which helps catch outside rain water and being one mold plastic unit ,gives the rain barrel extra strength (whole barrel).

Answer:
Hello. No the top is not removable. This is a great safety feature for children and animals. A lot of other products in the market have a removable top, which can present a drowning hazard. Our units are fully enclosed with an approx. 15" x 4" opening to collect the rain water .

Can multiple barrels be linked together?

This question is from 50 Gal. Rain Barrel with Woodgrain Brass Spigot
August 20, 2015
I want to link 2 of these barrels together. I notice that other brands sell a linking kit - does RTS have something similar? I don't see anything on the Home Depot site. Thanks.

Answer:
I have linked 3 barrels together by sawing off the "ears" on adjacent sides and using a 3/4 in. irrigation hose, available at Home Depot, to connect barrels. The last barrel drains to a bucket if all three are full, as often happens in So Cal when the rain comes all at once and you don't want to waste a drop.

Alas. No.
I went with bricks for the first one, then converted to the specially made stand for all three of mine. Not cheap but you don't want wobble or instability with a 400 lb full barrel.

it come out of the pipe nozzle at the front center near the top. You can also cut open the nubs on either side of the barrel to connect a second barrel for increased storage.

Answer:
There is an overflow spout in the front within a few inches of the top of the barrel. You might be able to see it in the pictures. There are also two knubs (one on each side) that are laterally positioned a little lower than the overflow spout. These are designed to be drilled into so you can use a hose to route to a secondary barrel to take on overflow.

There's an overflow at the top front of the barrel. You can buy a kit to collect the water from your downspout and it will shut off the flow to the barrel when it's full.

Answer:
Yes there is an overflow spout at the top of the barrel. Most times, we have used a small hose at the bottom of the barrel to take water into a watering can for our plants. So, we don't need the overflow spout. However, on occasion it has worked for us.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good barrel, bad in store/online The barrel is great. Bought it as a gift. went to return in store for a different color and they could offer me zero help. Literally none. They said the store and the website operate independently. Buyer beware. Returns are a pain. August 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NOT QUITE WHAT I WANTED I LIKE THE BARREL AND IT SEEMS WELL MADE. HOWEVER, THE SCREEN OPENING IS TOO SMALL AND DID NOT LINE UP WITH THE RAIN SPOUT. I HAD TO CUT OFF MOST OF THE TOP TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND ALSO MAKE IT EASIER TO CLEAN. FROM THE PICTURE IT LOOKED LIKE YOU COULD TAKE OFF THE LID BUT IT WASN'T SO. August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by expensive and defective The spigots don't fit in the holes properly on either of the two barrels we bought. And since the problem was consistent on both barrels, it must be a design issue. Now we are stuck with two huge barrels and will have to fight public transportation to return them to home depot. We specifically bought the more expensive ones this time b/c my last home depot rain barrels (around $80 each) only lasted one season. Now reading other reviews with "easy" instructions to fix the problem involving belts, suspenders, plumbers tape, and silicone spray. Is this a joke? There are two pieces, this was not supposed to be a weekend project. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very sharp looking barrel This is a very sharp looking barrel. No you will not fool anyone into not thinking that it is plastic but it is very nice anyway. The one with the black ribs is worth the extra money. It seems very sturdy and built to last. It comes with a decent quality solid brass valve. Even without considering that HD shipped it to me for free this is by far the best deal I could find online for a quality unit in this type of style. I decided to buy a knife handle 1/4 turn valve to replace the one that came with it to improve water flow. The one that comes with it only has about a 1/4" I.D. at the narrowest part of the brass . The one I replaced it with has a much larger I.D. due to the difference in valve style. (ball vs globe) My only complaint is that I wish it came in a larger size but it doesn't so I will daisy chain two together for increased storage to prevent it from over flowing during unusually hard rain storms. With the barrel on cinder blocks topped with patio pavers it is about 18" off the ground and flows water much faster than I was expecting considering that there is no pressure behind it. This is the one you are looking for if you want a really nice looking as well as well made unit in this style. July 27, 2016

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by leaks! yes i like the look of the product but it does leak! as some other people had said who bought it. did not know it leaked till we had our first big rain . needed another one we so went ahead and ordered the second one before we knew the first one leaked. for our purpose the first one will not matter if it weeps slowly in our garden ,but the second purchase can not leak! being on the patio. it to o big to return the item and i think they know that. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Conserving H2O My wife is into reusing water (saving any water used inside the house) for her outdoor plants. She would also use garbage cans to collect the water. I decided to get the four barrels and she felt it was a waste of time and money. Once they were in place, she stated that they looked pretty good, giving me her stamp of approval. We live in Southern California and are in our 7th year of drought. We just had some rain come our way and now we have 300 gallons of H2O for her plants and fruit trees. The $75 rebate per barrel for up to four barrels per residence is great too. October 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by like the look of a barrel The rain barrel was much needed. works great and looks good! I did have to go back and order the stand. but it was painless to find and order. works good June 24, 2016
