Answer:
It will hang Approx. 12" from the ceiling. This is determined by the ceiling bracket length. The Hoist end has a strap which is actually kind of long but can be shortened by tying knots in it.
Note: I did not use this to hang a ladder, but i used it to hang a snowblower.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Racor Storage products. The question you are asking will depend on your ceiling height and the extension ladder height. The height of the metal J-hook (mounted to ceiling) that the ladder will hooked on to is 12 inches and the ladder will attach to the hook. If you need further information please feel free to contact us again.

Yes. The length of the ladder is determined by where you mount the ceiling bracket and the hoist.

Answer:
Probably. Only question would be the width of the top of the step ladder and the depth of the hanging
bracket. The bracket we we received with the kit we bought was plenty wide and actually made the ladder hang lower from ceiling than necessary for an extention ladder.

I live in a beach house and want to use it to lift my groceries. Could I use it for this? And I would be using it outside. Could I use a chain cover to keep it from the elements?

Answer:
I suppose you could but it is rated for a 12 ft lift. You would have to rig it on a boom to swing the load on to the landing after you lifted it from the ground Most beach houses in NC are higher that 12 feet from the ground. you could put in a longer rope if needed. I am not sure how this would hold up in a salt air environment. It is designed for indoor use.

Answer:
I wouldn't. It's clearly designed to be used for LADDERS, and in a garage-like environment. Not sure how the nylon rope and metal components would hold up with exposure to the sun and salty air. Actually, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't hold up well at all. :)

Not sure exactly how you plan to use, but I'm guessing probably NOT. It's pretty much designed to store ladders on ceiling and being able to handle them by yourself.

Answer:
You can, but the maximum load is 150lbs up to 12 feet, once you go beyond the 12 feet the maximum load goes lower as you go higher, and the rope would have to be covered completely from the sun & water.
Water can cause the rope to slip, and the sun can cause the rope to rot. I would not recommend using it for this purpose.

Answer:
Are you sure your ladder weighs 300 lbs? Lots of ladders are rated to HOLD 300 lbs, but almost none not attached to a fire truck weigh that much. This is to store a ladder when not in use. The capacity of the ladder is not relevant. All that matters is that the ladder doesn't (while empty) weigh more than 150 lbs.

weight limit is 150 lbs- my 24' extension ladder is 51 lbs- you need a pully system that has a much higher rating- a 300 lb ladder - I wouldn't use anything with a weight limit below 450 lbs

In my situation, installation was onto exposed ceiling joists running in the opposite direction that the ladder lift would be installed. Without the sheet rock ceiling, I was concerned about the narrow ceiling joists supporting the hanger brackets because they would only have the 1-3/4" width of the joists to attach them. My workaround was to attach a 2x4 above the ceiling joists for each of the brackets. With this workaround, each of the brackets was securely attached and would not be stressed by raising and lowering the ladder. Racor is an excellent product and I plan to purchase an additional one to install my second ladder.
