Answer:
It will hang Approx. 12" from the ceiling. This is determined by the ceiling bracket length. The Hoist end has a strap which is actually kind of long but can be shortened by tying knots in it.
Note: I did not use this to hang a ladder, but i used it to hang a snowblower.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Racor Storage products. The question you are asking will depend on your ceiling height and the extension ladder height. The height of the metal J-hook (mounted to ceiling) that the ladder will hooked on to is 12 inches and the ladder will attach to the hook. If you need further information please feel free to contact us again.

Yes. The length of the ladder is determined by where you mount the ceiling bracket and the hoist.

Answer:
Probably. Only question would be the width of the top of the step ladder and the depth of the hanging
bracket. The bracket we we received with the kit we bought was plenty wide and actually made the ladder hang lower from ceiling than necessary for an extention ladder.

I live in a beach house and want to use it to lift my groceries. Could I use it for this? And I would be using it outside. Could I use a chain cover to keep it from the elements?

Answer:
I suppose you could but it is rated for a 12 ft lift. You would have to rig it on a boom to swing the load on to the landing after you lifted it from the ground Most beach houses in NC are higher that 12 feet from the ground. you could put in a longer rope if needed. I am not sure how this would hold up in a salt air environment. It is designed for indoor use.

Answer:
I wouldn't. It's clearly designed to be used for LADDERS, and in a garage-like environment. Not sure how the nylon rope and metal components would hold up with exposure to the sun and salty air. Actually, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't hold up well at all. :)

Not sure exactly how you plan to use, but I'm guessing probably NOT. It's pretty much designed to store ladders on ceiling and being able to handle them by yourself.

Answer:
You can, but the maximum load is 150lbs up to 12 feet, once you go beyond the 12 feet the maximum load goes lower as you go higher, and the rope would have to be covered completely from the sun & water.
Water can cause the rope to slip, and the sun can cause the rope to rot. I would not recommend using it for this purpose.

Answer:
Yes, the brackets & pulley are installed based on distance between the top & bottom rungs. The rail length doesn't matter.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works for other items as well This item works for other items as well as ladders. Used it to ceiling mount my snowblower. Pulls up easy and locks the rope up in-between pulls so it does not fall back down as you pull. Saved my back from lifting it up to the ceiling. You must shorten the provided strap in order to lift above the ceiling mounted bracket. May 3, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good way to store larger ladders Product is well made and fairly easy to install. I does solve the storage issue of larger extension and step ladder storage. I don't use this ladder (28ft) extension ladder everyday and it was getting ruined out side. It is easy to get up and down by my self and does not cost me any storage space on the floor. Problem solver for sure. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Storage Solution I am a contractor and I work from my home. Lately I have noticed I have lots of ladders. I had been storing them along the fences in my back yard. It never failed, it every time I picked up a ladder I would get covered in leaves. This product was the perfect solution. Now my extra ladders are stored out of the elements and out of my way. Very easy to install.... June 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 150 LB. LADDER LIFT It was very easy to install; it does the job it was supposed to do. I thought I had to come up with my own compound pulley system until I found this; it was perfect for what I needed. June 7, 2016
