Customer Questions & Answers

How easy would it be to make this mobile?

I'd like to mount wheels, or maybe even create a rolling chassis, similar to a furniture dolly, in order to easily move this around my garage when I need to use different spaces. This would not be moved by children, and I understand it could make it less stable, but for those who already have this unit, how easy do you think it might be?
Asked by: SpaceDeficient
An under-slung chassis that allows the bike stand to sit low with the wheels mounted up and to the outside will keep the center of gravity lower to the ground. (Think shop creeper for rolling under a car--you gotta stay low.) A standard furniture dolly with the wheels mounted underneath would raise the bike stand half a foot or so above the ground an make it unstable. The higher above ground the stand goes, the further apart the base wheels have to be.

Customer Reviews

4-Bike Freestanding Storage Rack is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Space saving? I bought it because I was excited to free up the floor space our four bikes took up...but it takes up about the same floor space as four bikes leaning against each other AND it takes up vertical space. So it actually takes up twice as much space and it seems like it takes up even more than that because you need space on either side of it to pull off the bikes. If you have a lot of space and want a cool looking setup, this is good for you. If you have a garage you want to maximize space in, this probably isn't for you.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Areas in need of improvement Assembly was straight forward since the stand is a simple apparatus. Design flaws, as other reviews have mentioned, include: (1) The clear rubbery pads that protect the floor is smaller than the holes drilled for them therefore they fall out anytime you lift or slide the stand to adjust it's position. (2) the "U" shaped hooks at the end of each arm are screwed on and covered with a cap. These caps frequently fall off. (3) The rubberized/vinyl coating around these "U" hooks tore easily when my brake cables rubbed up against them. Decent skeletal design but the parts that hold the bike is the weakest aspect of this stand. If the hooks can be redesigned to address my concerns, it would have a much higher rating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for the cost! For the cost, you would be hard pressed for a better solution. It is space efficient, reasonably sturdy and looks nice (not real utility looking, aesthetically pleasing). My only complaint is that it will NOT accomodate 29" mountain bike wheelsets in a group of 4. You could have 2x26" and 2x29" but can't stack 29" on same side. I ended up using the top 2 hangers for 29" wheelsets and the lower 2 hangers by using only 1 of the 2 arms on each side as a "cradle" to hold the bottom 2 29" bikes upright, but not suspended. If you try and elevate 4 29" bikes, they are laying on top of each others seats and bars. One fastener was un-threaded also but NBD, trip to hardware store and bought a bolt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job I had some problem assembling the tubes that form the base. It was frustrating, but after greasing the ends and with the help of a mallet, they finally went into place. It's a pretty nice stand, just a little too short, causing the bike on top to rest on the one below. Also, the stand does not stand straight, the top part is crooked. However, it does its job and the bikes look much neater now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well built bike rack for a very good price This bike rack is solid without a lot of accessories. If you are handy you can customize this rack to hold your gear and other bike related equipment as it is a very solid base to start from. A very good value for what I paid. I have seen the price vary enormously with Home Depot being the cheapest actually less than half of other places I checked on line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product exactly as described Quality piece of equipment. Easy to put together--my husband and I completed it in about 15 minutes. Holds all four of our adult-size bikes well. My only disappointment was with the rubber stoppers that you "plug" into the holes on the bottom of the stand. These did not fit well at all. After we inserted them, they popped right out when we turned the stand over to its upright position. We just left them out because we will not be moving the stand, and therefore, not concerned with the bottom of the rack getting scratched-up. I would imagine a dab of glue would keep them in just fine, but this was not a deal-breaker for us. Overall, highly satisfied with our purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very pleased with product Product is as pictured. It can store up to 4 bikes, but does require around 4 feet of floor space for clearance.
