Product Overview

The RadonAway RP145 is the most popular radon mitigation fan in the industry, is intended for use as a component of an active soil depressurization (ASD) system for reducing radon. The RP145 offer higher air flow, energy efficiency and quiet operation. It is ideal for both new construction and retrofit radon systems with a slab or membrane size of up to 2500 sq. ft. This fan is designed for moderate to good air flow, working most effectively with sub slab or sub-material conditions ranging from about 4 inches of clean, size 4-6 gravel to very loose soil. The RP145 is built to resist moisture and can be mounted inside or outside on a 3 in. or 4 in. schedule 40 PVC vent pipe using 3 in. x 4 in. or 4 in. x 4 in. flexible couplings. NOTE: When installing an ASD system for radon reduction, any openings, major cracks and penetrations in the building slab or membrane must be sealed. Fan sizing for retrofit may require professional diagnostics and design.

How long does this pump ladt

Asked by: Jody
I just purchased and installed my second Radon-away RP 145 Radon Mitigation Fan. The first one (same fan) lasted 4 years and 11 months of constant running. It actually never stopped working, but it gradually started to get a little bit nosier over the last several weeks. Probably a bearing was starting to go bad. Mine is an outdoor installation and it ran continuously the whole time. The unit is guaranteed for 5 years. Came pretty close to that!! I suspect that an indoor installation would last much longer than 5 years.

How quiet is the RadonAway RP154 Radon Mitigation Fan?

RadonAway advertises the fan as being "ultra-quiet." Other radon mitigation fan manufacturers list the sound/noise levels of their fans in sones/decibels. How many sones/decibels is "ultra-quiet?" This information is needed for me to make a purchase from Home Depot.
Asked by: Questioner
I don't know how many decibels are registered by the running fan, but I agree with the term 'ultra quiet' to describe its performance. My fan is installed outdoors about 18 inches from my bedroom window, and in the Summer with the window 'open', I can't hear it running at all from my bed which is about 2 feet away from the open window. I don't know if anyone makes a quieter fan, but I don't see how its possible. I'm a retired health and safety professional (industrial hygienist), and my best guess would be that the operating fan produces about 25 dBA immediately adjacent to the unit.

Power Chord Not Included?

Just curious, I have noticed some folks mention this unit does not include a power chord, Is that correct?
Asked by: Timmy
A decent quality extension cord (I recomend 12 or 14 gauge) can be cut and wired in to it with no problem.

Home Depot online pricing was much better than other online retailers and the RP145 is working great! Removed the old dead fan and installed this one myself (I'm pretty inept but this was fairly straightforward electrical rewiring). The only tricky part was that the old fan was placed between two pipes that did not move (coming up from the basement and going out toward the roof), so I had to wedge it out of the rubber gaskets. Fortunately the RP145 was ever-so slightly shorter than the old fan (maybe 1/2 inch) instead of ever-so-slightly taller, so I could wedge it in to the gap and reattach the gaskets. Fired it up and it immediately started working perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Installation was logical and straight forward. Following building codes seemed absurd considering radon is a common and heavy gas and only needs to be removed from living quarters to the outside where it freely moves around.

It reduced the radon from a high of 7.8 to .4 well within the EPA regulation. It is easy to install in a 4 inch schedule 40 pipe and wire in an extension cord for the electrical connection. Installing the RP145 is the easy part of radon mitigation, prepping your crawl space or basement is more difficult and time consuming. On the date of this review the RP145 has been installed 18 days. I have no information on the life of this product, so my 5 star rating is based on 18 days of use. I understand there is a five year warranty if a professional does the installation.

This radon fan is super quiet and very effective as verified by a measured reduction in radon concentration via sub-slab suction in a very large basement (approx. 2000 sq feet) from a borderline-safe 4 picocuries per liter to a very acceptable ˂1.7 picocuries per liter. Can't ask for more than that. I'm very pleased with the performance of this fan.

This fan is mounted in the attic above my sons bedroom and the pipe runs through this closet. I can't even tell it's running unless I feel the pipe.

Was replacing an existing fan that had been in place for 15 years, but had stopped running (typical expectation is 10 to 12 year fan life). It was easy to install and took about 30 minutes to swap out the old fan with the new. Runs great.
