How does bolt attach to trailer?

Asked by: Denny
Your trailer needs to be equipped with a female nut of the same thread size as the crank handle. Many snowmobile trailers have a hole near the front in between where your two skis would be positioned. The nut that the crank handle fastens to is just below this hole. I ordered the 1/2 package which means the crank handles are threaded 1/2-13 which is a coarse thread. I would imagine the 5/8 tie-down package is 5/8-11 being coarse threaded as well. I have seen crank handle available in different sizes with fine threads as well (ex. 1/2-20). It may be easiest to find crank handles that match your trailer rather than modifying your trailer to fit the crank handles. The crank handles were to short for my trailer as I was expecting but I ended up using 1/2-13 X 8" long bolts for now and just carrying along a wrench to tighten them for now. I couldn't find the length of crank handle I needed anywhere online and few places report the correct or relevant dimensions with their crank handle product so I will be just welding the crank portion to the bolts I am using at some point or maybe not because the bolt and wrench works well too.

The powdercoat finish and the protective covers are nice. I was kind of expecting this when ordering but the tie down bolts were too short for my application as my snowmobile skis are taller height (high center rib) and it is a longer reach to the tie down nut on my trailer. I ended up using long 1/2-13 X 8" bolts for now until I fab up a crank handle on them. Make sure to check the bolt and thread size you need (ex. 1/2-13, 5/8-11,...) before ordering.
