Does this clock include a pump starter?

Asked by: EVT
timer uses zone 1 as master valve, this can be used as pump starter using a 24v pump relay. Short answer is yes, same as any other time/controller requiring relay control for pump

12 Zone Smart Wi-Fi Sprinkler Controller is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Barely Adequate - missing key features The installation couldn't be easier. However, when trying to water two or more times per day, the RainMachine allows nothing else while waiting - no other zones can run (not even manually), If you need to check/repair a zone, all waiting activity must first be manually cancelled. So, this requires the creation of multiple programs for the same zone groups. And, with multiple zones and multiple program schedules, a lot of juggling is required to work around the limitations. Programs can't be moved so I spend a lot of time deleting and re-creating programs in order to maintain order and clarity. I mounted it in an exterior enclosure for someone to access when we're on vacation - however, the brightness and contrast are not adequate for the screen to be visible in the daylight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wary smart sprinkler system While I've only had the RainMachine installed for 5 days, I did check to see if it actually varied the watering times based on it's daily calculated watering percentage ( you set the watering time for each zone at what would you like to be on a typical summer day and the controller varies it down based on the forecasted hi & low temps from NOAA as well as projected rain. It will also increase watering if the forecasted temps are significantly higher than the average summer temps for your location ). It does vary the watering times based on the daily weather forecast exactly as advertised. The Android apps run a little slow and could use some tweaking & upgrading but do allow you to fully program the controller as well as activate manual watering if you need to test the zone. The controller has a built in browser & can be accessed from either Safari or Google Chrome browsers from any computer on the same network. It's wifi enabled and the wifi is actually a thumb sized USB wifi unit that plugs into an external USB port on the top. A second USB port on the top is probably for future expansion. The whole front of the unit is a capacitive color touch screen display which not only displays the 5 day weather forecast and what percentage of the watering time you have set it will water that day ( if it's a day you have scheduled ) but also either the last 30 days or last years savings. You can also fully program the unit from the touch screen. The firmware is also remotely upgradable for future enhancements or improvements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smart sprinkler controller that doesn't waste water when it is raining There are a lot of things to like about this device. First the installation is easy. I mounted it next to my old controller and just moved each of the zone's wires one at a time so the zones would remain the same. And I did the same with the C wire (the common) and it started right up. There is a set-up wizard that comes up and you can use the touch screen to enter the data. First you need to define your Wi-Fi network at your house and then enter your street address so it knows with NOAA weather location to use in order to get your local forecast. It also does a firmware update which takes a few minutes but ensures you are running their latest software. Then using the touch screen you define the zones and watering times. It took a couple of minutes to get the local forecast from NOAA and then it displays its forecast plan based on the weather. This is really cool and smart. There are 2 USB ports on the device and the device comes with a USB Wi-Fi adapter (by TP-Link) so make sure that is plugged in all the way so it can connect to your network. I really like this design approach instead of having the Wi-Fi circuit built into the unit because if it were ever to break you can just replace the USB adapter. A free app is available for your smart phone or web browser on your PC that lets you see the forecast and settings and also allows you to program the run times as well as do manual watering. The manual watering feature for me is great. I can use my phone to turn a zone on and then make sure all of the sprinklers are coming up and watering correctly. I did find a couple of sprinkler heads that I needed to replace as well as trimming some grass that was preventing them from coming up. This device makes maintaining your sprinkler heads very easy and that is important to do. The touch screen and display are very nice but the main benefit is the water saved by the unit having the forecast available and the device being smart enough to adjust the run time. Why buy the water when it is falling from the sky for free!

Doesn't water on rain days or waters a percentage of the time depending on the rain probability. Very intuitive to use. Great controller

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Make it rain up in heeyaah! This Rainmachine 12 zone smart wi-fi sprinkler controller replaced an older Hunter SRC 6-station model that was only set up for one zone. While it may be overkill in terms of number of zones it can accommodate, I got this unit to conserve water and be able to turn on/off the system remotely. My old Hunter controller was mounted in an outdoor cabinet; however, this Rainmachine has been mounted inside the basement because it's rather hard to read outdoors in daylight. Other than that, the controller seems to work well. It wasn't hard to connect and program, and I'll be keeping an eye on it to see how weather data impacts water usage. The weather data feature is pretty cool in theory, but I'd almost prefer to have a rain gauge. I haven't monitored this feature entirely yet, but I plan to test it more thoroughly next season. My usual process is to compare localized rainfall (measured by the Scott's Lawn App) to the amount of rain collected in my less-than-scientific, cat-food-cans-around-the-yard collection system. In the past, the Scott's app would tell me there had been 1/8" of rainfall and my cat food cans would tell me it didn't rain a drop. I'm hoping the weather data used by the Rainmachine will be more accurate. I like having an app-based, wi-if enabled product that allows me to monitor and turn things on/off remotely. I also like that you don't have to use a cloud service, and programs are maintained even after a blackout (no batteries required). The controller also has a nice display. The only thing that I'm not thrilled about is that the power supply is a big ol' wall wart (it's 1/4 the size of the compact controller unit). Rainmachine has made a convenient, well thought out product and it is a definite upgrade from my old controller. Thanks to Rainmachine, I'm considering expanding the number of zones in our yard so that the grass and flowerbeds can be controlled and monitored separately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Open source API makes this the sprinkler timer to look out for Very nice looking sprinkler timer that can handle up to 12 zones. Internet connected and can monitor weather to make adjustments. Hooks up like most other sprinkler timers but requires additional settings for connectivity. The walk through is easy to use though. The screen gives you a nice display on the upcoming and past weather schedules and you can get some very detailed information through the phone app and cloud website. What I like most about this sprinkler timer is that it has a very well document open source API. There is a great amount of detail on the online documentation, there appears to be a decent developer community growing and the company provides very knowledgeable support. They didn't just document the API endpoints but they provided a good deal of information on the code as well and why they're doing things they're doing. It's obvious a lot of thought and understanding of irrigation and weather was put into this product. The base system is Android and the sprinkler irrigation app I was told is also open source. The company also communicates with it's users and developers to improve the timer themselves. It's not enough for internet connected devices like this to talk to you wherever you are and to talk to the manufacturer's website. They need to talk and work with other devices. Smaller companies and even larger companies that aren't very established in the home automation space have to compete with companies established in the space and have to integrate with a slew of different home automation systems and protocols. Having an open source irrigation timer like this means that if there's a feature or integration you need but it's not a priority for the manufacturer, you can program that in yourself if you know how or hire someone that can do it for you. There may even be a developer interested in your changes too. You don't need to use the company's cloud service to access your sprinkler timer but their website provides a lot of useful information that can help you make adjustments to get better utilization out of your programs. There are a few things I wish were different but in talking with support I found out that most were already being discussed. If I really need to I can go in and make changes myself too.
