Customer Questions & Answers

The wall I want to paint in Highgate is textured, not smooth like how-to vid. Will this hinder or improve metallic look?

Asked by: Erika
I used this paint on brick walls and it turned out beautiful. The more textured the wall the more reflective the metallic. And easier to apply than on a smooth wall to get the metallic look.

Is it difficult to use Ralph Lauren's metalic finish paint on walls?

I am thinking of using this paint on a focus wall. what are the pros and cons on using such a reflective paint and how is it to apply and care for?
Asked by: DianaS
Yes, it is more challenging to apply versus your semi-gloss or eg shell type paints. You MUST follow the directions or it will not look like it is supposed to. It is impossible to make it look perfect, however that is what makes this paint so unique. The sponge roller is the most difficult part of the paint job because it does not hold very much paint. After the base coat is applied (using a 3/8" nap roller) you have to go back and use the sponge roller to get the metallic look. You can only work in small sections at a time for the second coat so it does take a while to do an entire wall. I painted my "Man Room Garage / Tool room and it is 32' by 24'. So, I used almost 3 gallons for the first coat and only about 1 for the final coat. I have the old antique service station type lights and they are very bright so it reflects the metallic very well. I simply use a damp cloth to wipe the wall down (hand prints mostly) but cleans up like a semi-gloss paint.

I want to paint one wall. The room is 12×13. Is one gallon enough? Is there any other paint needed?

Asked by: Tanae
For a 12x13 with 8’ ceilings you would be able to do one wall. A gallon of metallic should get you 200 square feet per two coats.

Not your every day paint to apply, and takes a little experience to make it look just right. You MUST have the recommended sponge roller for it to actually look like it is supposed to. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and follow the directions because it is not like applying any wall paint you have ever used I promise. The only bad thing I can say is the instructions are in 2 font so you need a magnifying glass to read them. The paint is awesome! I put it in my "Man Room Garage" so it would look like a vintage car paint job on the walls. Goes great with the old automotive signs, vintage car accessories, and my hot rod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful paint It's a beautiful color, I am a long-time fan of metallic paints since I love their texture. This color looks great at night with lamps and, if the room has good natural light, really brightens up during the day since it's a bit reflective. Very elegant and sophisticated color. Definitely get the special textured brush. And definitely do two coats (more if you want, but at least two). I painted one room this color with just one coat and it was very easy to see brush strokes (which also has a somewhat charming DIY/amateur feel, in my opinion) but I've done another room with 2 coats and it's much more even and the color has more depth. I was told by the online help chat person that it would arrive pre-mixed/shaken and with the mixing sticks, and then I got it confirmed from customer service (after I had ordered it) that that is not in fact the case, so I ended up having to take it in to the store anyway to get mixed. So my advice is just to get it shipped to the store since you'll have to go anyway and can pick up any extra supplies you need at the same time. Giving it an average review on value only because, as much as I love it, it's very expensive. Twice as expensive as most paints and you really do need a lot of it to get the texture and coverage right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful and pretentious Great coverage and gorgeous color, works better on textured walls than the smooth ones, where it almost looks smeared. It definitely needs primer, as it enhanced everything underneath.
