What type of tape is the best kind to use for this product that will not damage the floor if used to tape directly on?

I'm using it on a floor I cannot damage and the flooring needs to be taped down so it doesn't move. I heard the ram board tape will damage the floor if used to tape directly onto the floor. I need something strong that will hold down the flooring, but will not leave a residue on the floor when taken off.

Answer:
Perhaps use a masking tape for delicate surfaces. I believe 3M puts out a product like this and I also believe that Home Depot carries it in the paint department.

I'm not sure how large your floorspace is but mine was 4 courses of ramboard wide and about 24' long. I laid out the ramboard, flipping up the edges to catch debris, and then duct taped the ramboard courses together. I also had a baker scaffold rolling around on the ramboard. In this configuration I didn't have any sliding or movement across the newly finished semi-gloss polyurethane floor and no residue Read More

Answer:
Maybe if you used 2 layers. It also probably depends on how delicate the tiles are, and how rough whomever is climbing the ladder is working.

Answer:
My initial thought is, "Not easily"
I think it's too stiff to fold and kink over the steps though it would work well if you could get it to stay.
I suppose it would be possible to cut pieces to fit and then tape the nose and ends. It's a lot of cutting but maybe worth the effort

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 20 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works good Costs a lot but holds up really well. I bought a few rolls of Ram Board and a few rolls of the thinner floor covering for low traffic areas. There is no comparison though. Ram Board is really thick and holds up against all the contractors who don't care about spilling stuff, wet shoes etc. Ram Board is definitely curly and takes a little bit of time to put down. If you're doing it by yourself the easiest way is to unroll it and roll it back up in the opposite direction to get the curly-ness out. I did have to use Gorilla Tape to hold each piece to the next. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Right Product for the Right Job We have hardwood flooring throughout the ground floor of our house. When we ordered a new refrigerator to be delivered we did not want the delivery to mar or markup our floors. This was the perfect material to lay over the floors along the delivery path. Delivery of the product was quick and just in time for the removal of the old refrigerator. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased with this product! I used 2 rolls of the Ramboard protection on my new hardwood floors while moving. It did an excellent job of protecting my floors. I was surprised & relieved that it was also fairly easy to lay down by myself! June 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stuff for the right project This level of floor protection isn't needed for every project but for me it was invaluable and well worth the cost. I was sheetrocking and finishing over 9' plaster ceilings on original (1923) oak flooring, using both a drywall hoist and scaffolding. Did a great job protecting the floor. The edges have a light crease in them making it easier to fold up against the 8" baseboard. Kind of a nice touch. The only downside was convincing it to lay flat. It likes to curl up even when weighted down and duct taped. Minor thing. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good stuff this Ram board This is the best floor covering for protection of any floor. First thing you need to know is to turn it over it and it won't roll upon you. So just one layer is all you need. Sometimes a liquid will get through it, but if you clean it right away, you will save that $10,000 wood floor you just installed. We are rolling scaffolding over this so I will need a little Masonite at those areas. generally rolling carts and hand carts will go over it no problem. although I think this is the most expensive stuff I reuse it on project after project, till it is gone. then I get more. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Rug protector Very strong and durable material. Does a great job od resisting puncture, scuffing abuse from workmen in heavy shoes!! Stays attached to rug and does not move, comes up readily to reposition. Is a bit hard to get off the roll - plan to have scissors available to cut the material as needed. Works best if two people work together to pull the material off, hold the roll and cut it. Otherwise once it is in place it works great and worth the effort December 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ramboard Protects floors from dirt and wear and tear during heavy traffic January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by top quality floor protection Maybe not the easiest product for the typical homeowner to use but for longer term, top quality flooring protection this stuff is hard to beat. It is liquid resistant, easy to clean/sweep, easy to work over, easy to remove. If you have to work over protected floors, especially if you will be using a rolling scaffold, this is going to be hard to beat. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. June 18, 2015
