This flashlight is insane for the price point. No it doesn't have a fancy chip to regulate brightness but it also doesn't cost $60-$100. This flashlight is built tough, bright enough for nearly any task that requires illumination and uses readily available C batteries. Do yourself a favor and buy this one and keep it close to your bed.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by garyn Original batteries less than wonderful
I have a LOT of flashlights including the Model: DIY3C-B and its little brother the 2AA model.
This one is VERY rugged, reasonably bright, and great on battery run time. The head is designed to not roll around on a table, a nice feature.
The only two improvements I'd make on it is the switch placement on the rear (I would prefer it on the side) and the unnecessary low power mode. Despite these two things I bought it because its ruggedness was a more important feature.
The big problem I had with it is the original Ray o Vac batteries leaked while they still had plenty of life in them. I haven't had batteries leak in very many years.
Now the flashlight is useless as the batteries swelled and are not removable. I wrote for a replacement and I'll see how well the "lifetime" warranty holds up.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Andre Durable, bright and long battery life - all at a good price!
As a home inspector I need a flashlight that can deliver. This one is an excellent choice for my kind of work environment which can be dirty, wet, cold or hot. The battery life is simply amazing for the lumens (brightness) produced. The two light levels are perfect for me. Low level that saves battery life and high level when I need a bright light. Low level helps also when you move in close to examine or operate something and not blind yourself! This is my third flashlight of this Ray o vac design. The first one needed to be replaced after about 3 years of everyday professional use and the second one I gave away! The first model I had was not rubber armored. The rubber ends are a big plus however I do not like the placement of the switch at the end it was better for use on the side of the barrel. I also miss the rubber grip over the metal barrel. I took it off my first flashlight and fitted it onto my second one....loved it! I also buy this flashlight to give away as a promotion for my business at events and its always well received! This product, in my opinion is priced well for what you get.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by Dover Good - BUT - Don't ever change the batteries.........
This is an incredibly good flashlight, and it brighter than most others I have tried, but once you go through the original batteries, 75% of you will throw it away. In the workmanship, the little bead at the bottom of the light bulb does not align properly with the + nib on a battery, so new batteries don't work. I have tried EVERY battery in a 24 pack and it didn't matter which one was at the top, the flashlight didn't work. To verify my suspicions, I took one of the original batteries and put it in first (even though it was dead) and follow-up that up with 2 brand new ones (Energizer) and poof - there was light. Took the dead one out and compared the two and the Rayovac batteries have a little different + terminal. It's higher. Perhaps this flashlight is like Apple - proprietary, so you have to purchase more Rayovac batteries to continue to use it. Well, needless to say the dead battery fix was fine for awhile, but it leaked and damaged the cylinder. Tough to open the bottom when the batteries have leaked, which is probably why some people can't get it open. The dead Rayovac batteries leaked and messed up the threads in the screw-off bottom. Great flashlight, but if it won't work with other batteries, it's like paying $25 to rent one for awhile because you're going to have to throw it away.

Throws a beam of light beyond what i expected, the low power mode will be enough for all of my uses except for shining past 50 yards the high power setting is nice to have.Built tough, the run time on batteries is great! This is a solid light that will not disappoint.
