Product Overview

Get excellent insulation and sound reduction with Reach Barrier 3054 Reflective Air Insulation. It has two layers of sealed air laminated between two layers of durable reflective polyethylene. Reflective Air meets ASTM standards and complies with building code. It installs easily in attic spaces, exterior and interior walls, interior masonry walls, radiant floors, metal and steel buildings, knee walls, crawl spaces, garage ceilings and many other applications where insulation is needed. This insulation roll is 125 ft. long, 48 in. high and 5/16 nominal in. thick. Reach Barrier reflective insulation products are one of the most versatile and energy efficient insulation products available. Radiant (reflective) barriers are installed in attics, walls, roof decking, and flooring. Most newly constructed homes contain radiant barrier insulation because of the proven effectiveness to decrease energy usage and cost by reducing summer heat gain and winter heat loss. Installing a radiant barrier may be the lowest-cost improvement that can produce the greatest overall reduction in energy usage and expense.

Can it be used on a garage door?

Can it be used on a garage door?
Asked by: Wondering
Dear Wondering: Reach and similar reflective barrier products are not effective on garage doors. You have to create an air gap when you install it. This means the radiant barrier simply reflects heat back to the door, which heats the air even further, which flows into your garage just like it did before. You would basically create a more efficient solar air heater. Fortunately, Home Depot sells another garage door insulation product that is effective. I want to apply radiant barrier over the roof studs in the attic, leaving the 3.5" air gap between the roof and the barrier in a southern california home. Will I achieve and benefit using a double reflective material? Also some suggest to completely seal the air space between the studs, yet others suggest leaving an opening at the bottom and the top of the roof line so hot air can rise to the top of the roof to escape through a vent or fan. Thanks
Asked by: Alex
Dear Alex: Lots of good questions! If you have a standard ventilated attic, independent tests have shown that the most effective way to install a radiant barrier is to simply lay it down on the attic joists (the 'floor' of the attic) -- over existing insulation. This will block ~24% of the heat flux from the hot roof into the rooms below. If your attic is used for storage, you can staple it to the bottom of your rafters. If you have a ridge vent, it would be more effective to air seal the rafter bays and air gaps -- so that cooler air will flow in from the soffit vents at the bottom edge of the roof -- then up through the rafter bays and heated air will exit from the ridge vent. If you do not have a ridge vent, don't bother. Use DAP 230 to seal the edges. The 'Window and Door' version of Great Stuff foam is good for larger gaps. The "double bubble" and "single bubble" versions make no difference. It is the shiny surface that counts. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crawl space I bought two roles and metal tape to insulate my crawl space. Works wonderful my hardwood floors and stone tiles in the kitchen weren't cold in the winter anymore. I made false walls stapling it to floor beams. I couldn't do where the pipes are in a four foot square under the kitchen wow it's a ten to twenty degree difference on the floor using my snapon infared thermometer. Had some left over started doing the south side of the house attic what a difference you feel when it's 90 out. I made one mistake not ordering a third role.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it claims to do I installed this on the ceiling of my reloading room in my garage in order to help climate control. This building has a metal roof so it gets really hot in the summer and cold in the winter. This room has shown a difference in temp of 20 degrees or more since I installed the insulation. It does what it says it will do, is easy to install and even looks decent. I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff This product is easily cut to size and works instantly. I stapled this to the underside of the roof decking and the room started to feel cooler before I even finished. This blocks the heat very effectively. I then added fiberglass insulation and tongue and groove planks. Great product and great insulator!
