Product Overview

Get excellent insulation and sound reduction with Reach Barrier 3054 Reflective Air Insulation. It has two layers of sealed air laminated between two layers of durable reflective polyethylene. Reflective Air meets ASTM standards and complies with building code. It installs easily in attic spaces, exterior and interior walls, interior masonry walls, radiant floors, metal and steel buildings, knee walls, crawl spaces, garage ceilings and many other applications where insulation is needed. This insulation roll is 125 ft. long, 48 in. high and 5/16 nominal in. thick. Reach Barrier reflective insulation products are one of the most versatile and energy efficient insulation products available. Radiant (reflective) barriers are installed in attics, walls, roof decking, and flooring. Most newly constructed homes contain radiant barrier insulation because of the proven effectiveness to decrease energy usage and cost by reducing summer heat gain and winter heat loss. Installing a radiant barrier may be the lowest-cost improvement that can produce the greatest overall reduction in energy usage and expense.

Can this be used to isnulate a crawlspace over the insulation placed in the crawlspace ceiling or will it cause a moisture buildup in the insulation?

Asked by: John
Dear John: You referred to a "insulation placed in a crawlspace ceiling" -- so do you mean an attic, or the crawlspace under your house? Here are two answers, depending on the location: (1) Crawlspace under your house: Reflective barrier products like Reach and Reflectix provide very little insulation R value by themselves; the claims are based on a sealed air gap on one side. This air space provides almost all of the claimed insulation. So if you staple Reach to the bottom of all of the floor joists and carefully seal all of the joints and edges to block air leaks, this will improve the insulation under your floor. Use DAP 230 to seal all of the joints and edges. This said, standard foam board is more effective. Tuff-R, for example, provides R-6 per inch of thickness. If you screw it to the bottom of your floor joists, this will also create a sealed air gap, plus break all of the "thermal bridges" created by the wood joists, plus add R-6+ protection. See: Tuff-R Model # 193829, Home Depot Internet #100322375 Store SKU #163524 Store SO SKU #621947. Seal all of the joints and edges to block air leaks with DAP 230. The 'Windows and Doors' version of Great Stuff foam is good for larger gaps. (2) Crawlspace in your attic: A radiant barrier can reflect radiant heat from a hot roof in the summer. Simply lay the radiant barrier over the existing insulation, on top of your ceiling joists. This said, it will not improve insulation in the winter -- because cold cannot be 'reflected' and the warmer air inside your home is not radiant. So, again, standard insulation is more effective, winter and summer. The best option is to install Tuff-R foam board (which includes foil facing for the summer) on top of your joists, and seal all of the edges and joints to block air flow up into your attic. In both cases, moisture buildup is not a concern. I hope this is helpful, Mark

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crawl space I bought two roles and metal tape to insulate my crawl space. Works wonderful my hardwood floors and stone tiles in the kitchen weren't cold in the winter anymore. I made false walls stapling it to floor beams. I couldn't do where the pipes are in a four foot square under the kitchen wow it's a ten to twenty degree difference on the floor using my snapon infared thermometer. Had some left over started doing the south side of the house attic what a difference you feel when it's 90 out. I made one mistake not ordering a third role.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it claims to do I installed this on the ceiling of my reloading room in my garage in order to help climate control. This building has a metal roof so it gets really hot in the summer and cold in the winter. This room has shown a difference in temp of 20 degrees or more since I installed the insulation. It does what it says it will do, is easy to install and even looks decent. I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff This product is easily cut to size and works instantly. I stapled this to the underside of the roof decking and the room started to feel cooler before I even finished. This blocks the heat very effectively. I then added fiberglass insulation and tongue and groove planks. Great product and great insulator!
