Get excellent insulation and sound reduction with Reach Barrier 3054 Reflective Air Insulation. It has two layers of sealed air laminated between two layers of durable reflective polyethylene. Reflective Air meets ASTM standards and complies with building code. It installs easily in attic spaces, exterior and interior walls, interior masonry walls, radiant floors, metal and steel buildings, knee walls, crawl spaces, garage ceilings and many other applications where insulation is needed. This insulation roll is 125 ft. long, 48 in. high and 5/16 nominal in. thick. Reach Barrier reflective insulation products are one of the most versatile and energy efficient insulation products available. Radiant (reflective) barriers are installed in attics, walls, roof decking, and flooring. Most newly constructed homes contain radiant barrier insulation because of the proven effectiveness to decrease energy usage and cost by reducing summer heat gain and winter heat loss. Installing a radiant barrier may be the lowest-cost improvement that can produce the greatest overall reduction in energy usage and expense.

Can I install this directly against a block wall in my garage to resist the heat from outside. Would i be better off with foamboard?

Asked by: Jeffo
Dear Jeffo: First, Reflectix and similar reflective / radiant barrier products provide very little R-value by themselves -- just R-1. You must create a sealed air gap when you install it, e.g. between your block wall and the layer of Reflectix. The air gap provides almost all of the claimed R-value. This gap must also be tightly sealed, or heated air will simply flow into your garage like it did before. Plus, Reflectix and similar products are made from plastic, are flammable and must be covered by an approved thermal barrier -- just like foam board. 1/2" drywall is that standard. And if you live in an area with cold winters, Reflectix and similar products will not be effective because cold cannot be 'reflected' and the warmer air in your garage is not radiant. So... foam board or Roxul rock wool sheathing would be more effective. The best option would be to glue panels of 1" or 2" thick foam board to the block wall. Carefully seal all of the joints and edges to block air leaks. DAP 230 works well for joints and small gaps. The 'Window and Door' version of Great Stuff foam is good for larger gaps. Then build a 2x interior wall on the inside and fill the stud bays with Roxul. See: Foamular Model # 52DD, Home Depot Internet #202085962 Store SKU #307101 and Roxul Model # RXCB351525, Home Depot Internet #202090820 Store SKU #974419 This will also give you an interior wall to mount storage and shelves on, run electric circuits, etc. You can use a similar approach for the roof of the garage and house. Fill the rafter bays with Roxul, then mount sheets of foam board on the surface of the rafters. Carefully seal all of the joints and edges to block air leaks. Then install 1/2" drywall to cover the foam board. (This is required because foam board is flammable.) I hope this is helpful. Mark

Can it be used on a garage door?

Can it be used on a garage door?
Asked by: Wondering
Dear Wondering: Reach and similar reflective barrier products are not effective on garage doors. You have to create an air gap when you install it. This means the radiant barrier simply reflects heat back to the door, which heats the air even further, which flows into your garage just like it did before. You would basically create a more efficient solar air heater. Fortunately, Home Depot sells another garage door insulation product that is effective. This product was used in the attic under the heating unit where regular insulation could not have been used because there wasn't enough room between the roofing joist and the heater. It met all specifications and it did the job. Thank you very much for your help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crawl space I bought two roles and metal tape to insulate my crawl space. Works wonderful my hardwood floors and stone tiles in the kitchen weren't cold in the winter anymore. I made false walls stapling it to floor beams. I couldn't do where the pipes are in a four foot square under the kitchen wow it's a ten to twenty degree difference on the floor using my snapon infared thermometer. Had some left over started doing the south side of the house attic what a difference you feel when it's 90 out. I made one mistake not ordering a third role.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it claims to do I installed this on the ceiling of my reloading room in my garage in order to help climate control. This building has a metal roof so it gets really hot in the summer and cold in the winter. This room has shown a difference in temp of 20 degrees or more since I installed the insulation. It does what it says it will do, is easy to install and even looks decent. I recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff This product is easily cut to size and works instantly. I stapled this to the underside of the roof decking and the room started to feel cooler before I even finished. This blocks the heat very effectively. I then added fiberglass insulation and tongue and groove planks. Great product and great insulator!
