Product Overview

Get excellent insulation with the Reach Barrier 3122 Silvertanium Garage Door Kit. It has everything needed for installation and eight pre-cut panels. This insulation is the only non-laminated reflective barrier available on the market today and is light, strong and able to withstand the most aggressive environmental conditions. This ensures the insulation maintains peak performance throughout the life of the product. Silvertanium meets all ASTM standards and complies with the international building code. The kit features Reach Stick'ems, a set of adhesive fasteners that are 1/8 in. thick and are high-density, open-cell polyurethane foam with longer-lasting acrylic adhesive on both sides. The adhesive’s bond gets stronger as the garage door gets hotter and conforms to many surfaces. Each kit includes eight 24 in. by 48 in. pre-cut panels and 48 1 in. sq. adhesive fasteners. Reach Barrier reflective insulation products are among the most versatile and energy efficient insulation products available. Radiant (reflective) barriers are installed in attics, walls, roof decking, and flooring. Most newly constructed homes contain radiant barrier insulation because of the proven effectiveness to decrease energy usage and cost by reducing summer heat gain and winter heat loss. Installing a radiant barrier may be the lowest-cost improvement that can produce the greatest overall reduction in energy usage and expense.

  • Save on energy costs by reducing energy consumption in your home
  • Keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter
  • 100% recyclable
  • Installing Silvertanium garage door installation kit is a great DIY project

Dear DrDan524: Yes, but two caveats:

(1) Foam board is very flammable and must be covered by an approved thermal barrier in a garage, home, basement, etc. The standard is 1/2" drywall, which obviously would not work on a garage door. So installing foam panels on your garage door would be a code violation and major fire safety hazard.

(2) All 'radiant barrier' insulation products require you to build / create a sealed air pocket on one side, e.g. a sealed air gap between a hot metal roof and the radiant barrier. This air gap provides almost all of the claimed R value. The shiny plastic has almost no R value. So this will not work on a garage door either.

(3) Radiant barriers do not work in winter, because cold cannot be 'reflected' and warm air is not radiant.

Home Depot sells another garage door insulation product that is effective and easy to install: Owens Corning Model # GD01, Home Depot Internet # 202257272 Store SKU # 744925 Based on standard fiberglass, it provides R8 winter and summer.

I hope this is helpful.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works it works well and it was easy to install. I put it behind the Styrofoam insulation kit, so I expect it to work better this summer to block out the heat. the two combined make a really nice kit. April 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy enough to install. For my double garage door I needed two kits. The foil needed to be trimmed which was simple with a pair of scissors. They provide small double sided adhesive pads that are supposed to be placed in the corners and one in the middle. I found this part to be a little tricks as my door has braces that the foil goes behind. I also used to silver tape for a couple of spots due to the nature of my doors. The job took a couple of hours and looks pretty reasonable. It is pretty hard to determine how well the reflective foil works. The garage seems to be cooler but how much is due to the foil and how much is weather I don't know. Since I installed it, there has not been much direct sun which is really what heated up the garage. But all in all if it helps it's worth it. August 29, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Be Aware I just installed this product. I don't know how well it will work yet; but, I can tell you that the dimensions listed for the product are incorrect. The specs say the product comes in 24" by 48" panels. They are actually 22.5" by 48". As a result there was not enough product to cover the area they indicate that it should cover. Home Depot was good about this and provided a gift card for my trouble. June 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Helps keep garage cooler longer. Very simple to install. Ideal for garage doors not thick enough for rigid foam insulation panels. May 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by simple and straight forward The Reach Barrier Garage Door Kit was easy to install, and it seems to be working as advertised. Our garage door faces west and we live in Central Texas, so with an aluminum door that's a lot of heat. These panels are helping keep things cooler. We did follow others reviews by augmenting the sticky squares with two sided tape. May 15, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by skeptical as to how much good it does They never give its R value of insulation. The product is so thin that it only covers the face of the garage door metal. Metal conducts heat and there is so much metal around the panel radiating heat into the garage. Virtually impossible to get the shiny aluminum foil flat so whole of inside surface looks crinkly. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use, goes up quick and made a big difference Easy to use, goes up quick and made a big difference. Drop day time temp by 20 degrees. July 30, 2013
