Answer:
The Museum Putty should work well on most surfaces. However, it is not recommended for thinly applied laminates as it may lift upon removal. Depending on the age and quality of construction the putty may do very well. However, it is up to the end user to determine the integrity of their particular surface or collectible. Answer:
A small amount of The Museum Putty can be used on the bottom edge or corners between the painting and the wall in order to keep the painting straight. The putty is not meant to suspend the painting on the wall. The Museum Putty should only be used on non-porous paint or surfaces. It is recommended you test the product in an inconspicuous location of the intended surface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't Move! I love museum putty. It really adheres to the item and it keeps it in place. I used it on top of the toilet to hold a decorative ceramic piece in my kids bathroom. It's been there three years now and can you believe the item is still in one piece! It really does a great job and I would highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Probably Already Know How Good Museum Putty Is If you don't already know, Museum Putty is a product that will firmly adhere small objects into position while on display, but will allow them to be removed when the display period is over without leaving residue on the object. Not readily found even in a good art supply store, having it available from HD simply makes finding and buying it easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've used this product before. If you have valuables and pets or kids, you'll love this stuff. I had a crystal vase that I "puttied" to the top of a table. The table was tipped over on it's side and the vase stayed attached to the tabletop...completely unharmed. Plus, it leaves no mark when you remove it, so it won't mar your valuables. Great stuff. You'll be ready for an earthquake or kidquake with this stuff

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works exactly as advertised Museum Putty has the texture of Silly Putty but is a bit stickier. I tested the putty on both the wooden surface of the display case in which I was placing bone china thimbles and on the thimbles themselves. The putty came off cleanly, without damaging the surfaces. For my project, I was able to use a piece of putty smaller than a pea. Following the instructions, I rolled the tiny bit of putty on my palm until it became pliable. I formed a small coil, which I pushed down onto the wooden surface. Once the putty was in place, I gently pushed the thimble into the putty. The thimble did not move, until I intentionally remove it, as a test. The thimbles are now firmly in place. I'm very pleased with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my use Needed to stabilize two ceramic items to our granite counter top. Easy, and seems to be solid yet removable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than another putty that I used I ordered this, never having used it before, and gave it excellent due to the non-sticky feeling that another brand left on my fingers. I was kind of hoping that it would take less to hold down collectibles, so they would be flatter to the shelf, but it isn't liquid....Comes off clean from what I've seen and as I stated before, I have tried something similar and it left my fingers feeling like I was playing in super glue (not listing the name of the other product since it might have been better when it was new and had not been in heated area). Appears to be good to keep paintings hanging in place, too. By putting some on bottom corners once it is attached to the wall I haven't had to readjust the picture. (It is not glue so if you want to move it that is easy, but dusting or something won't knock it out of being level. Overall Rating is actually between Good and Excellent. I could not find it in the store, but ordered and had it delivered there to avoid shipping charge and no problem--fast and saved time of running all over looking for it.
