Rated 5 out of 5Â by mcdee Unbelievably realistic, especially the crackle.
I was a bit concerned with all the excellent reviews of this product. But i am very pleased with this fireplace insert. It produces a very realistic flame set and the crackling sound from the fuel reflects actual logs burning. The attached photo says it all.
It was very easy to assemble and appears to be sturdy and durable.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by natworks Perfect size, great ambience
I bought this log set in 18 inch size to fit a new free-standing outdoor fireplace. The outdoor fireplace was designed to burn wood, but since I'm using it on a screened porch I could not burn wood in it for obvious reasons. This log set was the perfect solution. Its 18 inch width perfectly fit the log tray that came with the fireplace (the 24 inch log set would have been too wide). It was fairly easy to assemble too. The 18 inch log set holds 2 cans of gel (which I could not find on the HD site or in the store so I bought elsewhere in a 12-can pack - HD, why don't you sell the gel fuel cans?). Anyway, once I got it put together & lit the fireplace it doesn't give off a lot of heat like wood, but I didn't intend to use it for a serious heat source on a screened porch - just for the mood and ambience having a burning fire on my porch gives me -and I'm very pleased with the look and the design of the log set. If you are standing right in the front of the fireplace looking down you can see the fuel gel cans but sitting in front of the fireplace you really can't. I love this log set and recommend it to anyone who wants a fire outdoors, indoors or on a porch who can't burn wood because of fumes, smoke and odor. There are no ashes to dump wiith gel fuel logs - just throw away the cans when they are empty. Cans last about 3 hours. Shake them well & remove the label off the can before lighting. You'll love sitting around a fire with a glass of wine & a relaxing book or listening to music - even on a porch.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by jflmi Exactly what we were looking for!
We have a portable concrete fireplace in our outdoor Florida room. We tried burning wood and alternative logs but they would be smokey, messy and not last long.
After googling on-line for an alternative smokeless burning item, I found the 18" Real Flame Oak Convert to Gel fireplace logs.
It fit into our fireplace perfectly and it looks really great! It holds two cans of Real Flame gel which last approx 3 hours ea. The fire looks like the logs are burning, especially because of the two cans.
Great find for us! Makes our outdoor room look "homey".

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Caroline Cute and Simple
Overall, I like it very much. Its cute, it dresses up an otherwise empty fireplace and it fit just like the measurements suggest. It does NOT however, have three spaces for the gel fuel. Only two. This does not change my opinion too much as it is still a good purchase in general for the money. The directions were ridiculously simple and it takes less than 10 minutes to assemble. It does not put out too much heat by itself but if you turn the fan on if you have one, it really does. If you stand up right next to it, you can very easily see the two gel fuel cans which bothered me at first because it seemed less realistic but from a sitting position on a nearby couch, it looks and sounds very natural. The gel fuel that came with it didn't burn much more than 2 hrs (wish I could find fuel that burned 3+) which could get a bit expensive if you use it every night (but I don't so its perfect). It crackles just like real wood. Nice touch. Also, I did not experience any odor whatsoever when I began burning the fuel except a slight gas odor that came from the fuel itself and has nothing to do with the logs. I would say, if you are looking for a thrifty alternative to installing gas into a masonry fireplace and are looking for mostly ambiance, this is a great choice.
