yes it fits; I had to actually shim one of mine on the side b/c the space was a little big. The Tile-Redi website has the spec sheets for these items w/ all the dimensions, so you don't have to guess.

My contractor did not install this flush with the green board. Could this be that the green board he used was too thin? Or did he just do it wrong?

Answer:
Your contractor should have used 1/2" Durock or similar for the bathtub/shower walls. The 1/4" Hardibacker is for floors. I don't think people tile over green board drywall anymore, the tiles will fall off.

I am answering my own question after consulting with three tile contractors: the board used was 1/4 inch and not 1/2 inch. It all has to be ripped out and done correctly. I would actually still like some responses from others as my original contractor probably won't confess to any problem.

Your response to what kind of thinset to use was regular thinset. Is that unmodified or modified thinset? Can you please be a bit more specific?

Since Redi niche is made of plastic, my concern is the adhesion required to hold the tille. It would really be great to know if a product like Ardex unmodified thinset would be recommended as a bonding agent for tiles? Thanks.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Saved a lot of time as opposed to building a niche. Installed within minutes and was able to tile right away September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Addition to Shower Build I had two very old bath & shower surrounds in a 100 y old house redone as tiled showers and got one of these for each. My contractor was impressed with the unit, and the finished tile job incorporating each looks fantastic. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Too small Way too small to hold bottles. Very difficult to tile August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good product; exactly as adverised Great product; exactly as advertised. I stacked two on top of each other; solid. February 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by SAVES TIME The niche is very nice because it saves time from trying to make one in a wall and it is sturdy as well. This is the second one I have purchased, however this one appeared to have a very slight "belly" between the two compartments and made it impossible for me to get it flush along the hardiboard. I did my best to feather out the joint of where the niche met the hardiboard. Very easy to tile. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Improves quality and efficiency of build Framing for this was straightforward. The product is 1/2 inch thick, so it matches up with surrounding wall materials, resulting in a uniform tiled surface. The challenge is to place the RediTile niche so that tile cuts are minimized. Ours was a retrofit, so we took our time determining the placement on the wall. Use silicone sealer on all joints and screw holes. Item is guaranteed to be watertight. All the walls and shelves are sloped to drain from rear to front, and the item can be oriented upside down (with the soap dish on top) and still drains to the front. October 27, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy install - time saver The niche installed very quickly and held new tile with minimal adhesive. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Solid Purchase For a DIYer this was easy enough to install in the wall. However, tiling presented a challenge due to all the corners, etc... Before purchasing the product I read that people had tiles fall off which was a concern but I used standard subway tile and it was perfectly fine. My guess is those people were using much bigger tiles. Once its tiled it looks great and is very practical. Most importantly my wife likes it! September 22, 2015
