Answer:
A thin but strong cord runs through holes on two sides through the pleats and comes out at the bottom in the center. A mechanism on the inside of the plastic bar on the bottom locks the cords when you slide the shade up and it releases it when you grab the shade with two hands and slide it down. Very easy.

I have a few different room types and colours I am working with. Some rooms are bedrooms (which all vary in colour) and others everyday living spaces. Is there a distinct difference between black-out and light blocking shades? Do both come in a variety of colour?
Thank you,

Answer:
I only know these shades in a natural beige color which makes them neutral. They darken the room but do not black it out (light shines through the tiny holes where the cord runs through the pleats and on the sides. Don't know if the come in other colors.

Answer:
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Blackout shades are designed to block all light from entering a room where light blocking shades are designed to block out some light. Yes, both types of shades come in a variety of colors. For any other questions, please call us at HomeDepot.com Customer Service 800-430-3376.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product These shades are easy to install and can last for years if handled carefully. The description is misleading however. The shades are made of paper the word fabric relates to the pull cord. They darken the room but do not block daylight. Light also shines through on the sides or between shades if you use them side by side. But they are a very good value for the price. You can customize the size by cutting off both sides but you need a good sharp utility knife to do so. The instructions are included and very good. They attach to your window frame with double adhesive foam tape. If you decide to remove the shades one day, it is very difficult to remove the tape but it can be done (Google helps) August 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk When I hung these blinds they were way too short! Definitely not 72 inches long. I bought 2 blinds. One blind literally fell apart an hour after I hung it. The bottom part just dropped off! The second blind lasted about 24 hours. I am getting a refund. They are junk January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great temporary shades! So easy to cut to size and install! Had 3 windows done in 20 minutes! These are perfect for temporary or even semi-permanent shades. I can't comment on how long the adhesive will stick because I've only had them up for a couple of weeks but they look great and I would highly recommend! November 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by simple and economical these blinds are and easy install, and a great way to dress up a window, block out the sun when needed, and not spend a lot of money. they work best if you make a bracket to suspend from the frame which would allow you to cut off an old one and stick another on - nothing lasts forever in the sun, but they do last a long time. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I have used these shades before for all the reasons stated above. The Redi Shades are so easy to install; provide the privacy I need on a metal door with glass panes. The ease of ordering online together with free shipping made this purchase very satisfactory. March 13, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Works for what I wanted. A bit flimsy and pull cord system is iffy. May 31, 2011
