Rated 5 out of 5 by easy to install and operate I used this product mainly for climate control. It went up in 3 minutes because it was the exact width I needed so I didn't need to cut material off the sides. It looks good and operates easily. I love it and plan to buy more. I put this on a southern exposure window for climate control. It's doing a great job of blocking heat generated by sun's rays. July 16, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Simple solution that does the job We needed a black out blinds for my son's room and this does the trick. He is able to open and close them on his own since he is 6. And the sun needed to be blocked from his west facing window. I thought I would be able to saw the ends off myself but my husband's strength was needed for a cleaner cut. December 10, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very Lightweigtht Easy to install. Just make sure when you remove the adhesive strip you line it up carefully to the window area carefully. Looks good, very light to the touch. The question is durability and how long they will last over time. October 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quite happy with my shades! My first experience with shades by Redi-Shade was with one found at a different retailer, that I could see prior to purchasing. THAT one is different in that it has a button to push on the bar to raise and lower also came with a "cutting tool", finding it was fairly easy to trim, putting it in a bathroom window to add coverage from light and heat, easily raising and lowering when utilizing mini blinds and curtains for more light. That one came also with the option for using plastic brackets OR sticking up with double-sided squares which I used. I've had this up for a few months now and am pleased. After that, I decided to see what was available at my local HD, finding a different version that I had to order online. Since they are only available in particular widths, I figured I would get two 36" to carefully place side by side, which is what I have done now in two windows that are 71" wide, deciding to only have to trim one slightly. (Now, this product just simply lifts and lowers by touch. It also does not come with a "cutting tool", just so you know, but has instructions). I really like the room-darkening version used in the bedroom which really blocks light, easily raising to allow filtered light in by way of sheer curtains I have in front of with heavier draperies that I pull to the side, during daytime. (Might I mention, this is also nice if you have a cat who likes to sit in the window sill - with no dangerous cords). I placed two more of the light-filtering version in a living room window frame to filter light, that also has sheer curtains and heavier draperies, for when closed. I only had one issue. After that first install, I found I could not slide window closed without it becoming hung up on the shade. In a panic, I ended up taking the one shade down that night, realizing later that by gently pulling it forward when closing window, I could avoid it becoming hung up on the window frame's metal lip.. duh. When trying to replace the original double sided tape after cleaning the surface, I still had trouble keeping shade in place. FINALLY, I realized I could put it back up by using screws, drilling five small holes along the length of the top surface into window frame and through first layer of "fabric". It has been up since and I am pleased. I also found that if left at a particular level for a while, I had trouble raising, realizing if it was lowered ALL the way down and up, THEN lifted down again, it will apparently reengage the mechanism. I mention this, since I have read that some had thrown out their shade when unable to keep in place or raise it again in time. Just to point out to not only follow instructions in measurements and care in placing, but to realize that this is the kind of thing to use a gentle touch with, as I've also read that some having problems seemed to abuse the product with a repeated heavy hand. I don't know how long they are designed to last, but I think with care, it might be for some time. I for one am happy, since it solved some problems for me. May 9, 2014
