Dear MotorGrader: Yes, this is one of the best applications for Reflectix, which will reflect the heat (infrared) radiating from the hot metal roof.

Two key details:

(1) All reflective products require you to create / .build an air gap on one side, e.g. between the tin roof and the layer of Reflectix. You cannot simply glue Reflectix to the metal roof. If your porch roof has standard wood rafters, you could staple Reflectix to the side of the rafters with a 1" to 2" air gap in between. This air gap actually provides almost all of the claimed R value; the shiny bubble wrap has very little R value.

(2) The air gap must be sealed or vented to the outside air -- so that heated air does not flow into your porch. Make sure the edges along the rafters, for example, are sealed to block air leaks. You could run a bead of clear DAP 230 sealant along the rafters when you staple the Reflectix to them, for example.

I hope this is helpful,

Mark

Answer:
You can install the Reflectix under tin but you need to maintain a minimum of 3/4 inch air space between the tin and the product for maximum performance and to reduce condensation.

Answer:
I haven't tried it, but I think it would work very well for that application. I used scissors to cut mine instead of a razor knife, so you could easily shape it to the contours of your windows. It doesn't fold well, so you would probably need to roll it up when not in use.

Yes, you can use it as a sun screen in the car window. You want to use the visors to hold it up and not attach it to the window or tape it. Of course, remove it when you are operating the vehicle.

XPS foam board is a much better option. It provides R4 per inch. You can easily cut pieces to fit, and seal the joints with Great Stuff foam. XPS also does not absorb water -- from rain and snow outside, or something else on the inside of the dog / cat house. Look for: Owens Corning Model # 86BG Internet # 100320343 Store SKU # 465124

Dear Nate: Glad to hear that you found the Roxul "Safe 'N Sound" solution -- a great product. A few suggestions:
(1) Reflectix air gap: Reflectix bubble wrap offers very little insulation value by itself; the R values claimed on the package depend on a sealed 'air gap' that you must create / build when you install it. If you simply apply it against the exterior wall of your shed, there will be almost no benefit.
(2) Cold vs heat: Reflectix is also much less effective in winter vs summer, because there is no radiant heat for the shiny surface to reflect. With a cathedral ceiling, for example, Reflectix claims R7 in summer but only R1 in winter in the northern US.
(3) Sealing air leaks: With insulation and soudproofing, air leaks are almost as important as the material itself. Do you plan to install drywall or something else on top of your studs to finish the interior surface -- and seal it? DAP 230 and Great Stuff foam are good option to seal joints and gaps.
(4) Wood conducts sound and heat effectively. To isolate the inside of your shed, you could apply a 1" layer of Roxul Rockboard over all of the studs and rafters. Rockboard is similar to Safe N' Sound batts, but in a stiff board form. It is also available with foil facing, which could serve as the interior surface of your shed. You can order it from the Pro Desk at your Home Depot.
I hope this is helpful.

Answer:
You would not want to do that. For a reflective insulation to work there must be an air space on at least one side of the product. In your description the Reflectix is installed againt the metal then the roxul right to the Reflectix.

24 in. x 25 ft. Double Reflective Insulation with Staple Tab is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reflectix Performs I installed this product in my attic last year and immediately lowered the afternoon temperature from 140* to 110*. This product will pay for itself in 2 yrs by lowering my cooling bills. I just ordered another 18 rolls to complete my attic and begin doing my neighbors. I was impressed on the ease of installation, compared to fiberglass batts. NO itching and no masks needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reflectix Put this in my garage doors... just cut it to fit and press it between the edges... no tape was necessary. I could feel the difference immediately. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reflective insulation I used the air cell reflective insulation on the uninsulated heating and cooling ducts in my basement/ crawl space. It really improved the heat flow into the house rather than into the basement! This is a great product. don't wrap it to tight around the duct work - I found that out. Use the metal duct tape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff This insulation works well and is easy to manage. Blocks heat from roof very well and allows me to use my attic for storage!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for lite-weight jobs. Reflectix is a great lite-weight insulation. It's very easy to install because its relatively thin and securing it was a snap (using staple gun and/or aluminum tape). I installed it in a small shed and it holds the heat well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product We use our minivan to camp in. This product is easy to cut and fit to windows for privacy and cold protection.
Date published: 2015-03-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product and it works I live in the Sacramento area where the Summer's are very hot. I have a 13X10 shed in our back yard with a cathedral ceiling. I have dry wall with bat insulation and no windows in my shed. I threw this Radiant barrier on the ceiling and noticed an incredible difference the very next day. It cooled down the shed maybe 20-30 degrees. It was enough to make a significant difference. Very easy to install and well worth the money. I would definitely recommend this product!
Date published: 2016-06-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from reflective insulation It was very easy to install over my heating system pipes under my house. I used the aluminum tape, which I also like. Both are a little more expensive than I would like, hence the 4 instead of 5 rating.
