Answer:
Depends on how you plan to connect the generator to the switch. I ran 40 feet of 10-3 wire from the switch inside my house to the outside power inlet box. I then wired my own extension cord w/ 2 plugs (male/female) and 10-3 wire to connect the generator to the outside power inlet box. Start the generator and then go to panel and switch on the circuits on the transfer switch to"generator" setting -presto Read More

Answer:
The connector that fits into the inlet included with this transfer switch is the Reliance Controls L1430C, internet no. 202216503. You could also use a manufactured generator cord if your generator has a matching L14-30 (4 wire, 30 amps) outlet. An example would be internet no. 202216499.

If you order the kit - yes. I bought everything separate since had to run 45 feet of wire to outside power inlet box as well as wiring my own connecting cable from generator to power inlet box (35 feet), two special plugs - male/female, etc.

The water heater circuit on the main board currently has two 30 amp breakers and I will not be using any other circuits on my transfer switch when using the water heater. I have a 6500 watt generator.

Answer:
Yes you may. It is always a good idea to monitor the watt meters on the front of the transfer switch to confirm you are not exceeding the capacity of the generator (if your switch has the watt meters for each half of the generator output) Keep in mind YOUR generator is good for approximately 27 amps at 240 volts..
