Customer Questions & Answers

Do they make a weather tight box to mount this 4 prong 30 amp generator input connector in?

There is not much room in my box to mount this connector and connect wiring. I would like to mount a box with this connector below my box, and connect conduit/wiring to my box.
Asked by: Jack
This outlet does not protrude into the box very far. I had problems with the main wire as they are large and were in the way. I managed to push them back far enough to use the connector. I connected all the wires to the connector before inserting the connector and that made it much easier. It also attaches from the outside with screws which makes installation much easier.

Can i use a 3 pronged twist lock ?

I am using this type of outlet to plug in a generator cord into a cutoff switch panel to switch between solar or the generator. I only want 110, not 220. This will make it easier to wire through the switch and panel legs. So I think a 3 pronged twist male 30amp? outlet would be fine? Is that available?
Asked by: sparky
This is designed for a 4 prong. I don't see how a 3 prong would work.

When will the reliance pk30 be available online or in stores.

Asked by: Anonymous
I have an outside main electric panel with cutoff. I mounted this on the bottom of that main box. It could be mounted on the side also. That's about the only time I see you needing this type of outlet. Most people but a box with mounted outlet included. Don't know about this selling stores but it I doubt many people buy it.

When the electricians installed the inlet box for the generator they put in a 50 Amp plug. The generator we are using has a cable with 30 Amp plugs both ends. Would this inlet kit replace the 50 Amp plug currently installed?
Asked by: DaveNN
The short answer is yes. But safety becomes an issue here. Is your generator rated at 30 amps or 50 amps? If it's 50 amps you need a 50 amp cord. Another solution is what I call a pigtail. It will be a very short cord (about 1 1/2 feet long) with a 30 amp connector on one end and a 50 amp on the other. RV's do this a lot. Just be sure you have the proper connectors on each end. Here's an example This cord may not have the correct ends on it. It's not hard to make an adapter similar to this one. Remember the two connectors on the adapter cord must match the two connectors you are hooking to exactlly. I installed mine in the bottom of my breaker panel. So be sure the 30 amp connector will physically fit the box you plan to put it in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Unit if Complete Assembly Ships Recieved this unit from online order today and was impressed with quality but did not include the spring cover. My attempts to contact supplier (Relience) went to a phone message machine that would not accept messages. For an outdoor aplication the cover is required. I guess it is a good thing this is an electrical input at not a saftey issue of exposed prongs. I recommend this if Home Depot can follow up on quality assurance with their suppliers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product. I would recommend this to professional electricians only, like myself. It needs a suitable box to mount it in, with proper room inside the box, as the body of the connector goes inside the box. It also requires a 3" hole (21/2" conduit size), so if your box doesn't have that size knockout, you should have a knock-out punch or hole saw of the correct size handy. One bad point is that Home Depot wouldn't ship to me in Hawaii, so I had it shipped to my son on the mainland and he mailed it to me. It is not very big, so I don't get why they won't ship to Hawaii. It only cost him $6.95 to mail it to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, nice clean look also This works great if you have a large enough knockout in your panel and have room for it on the inside of the panel where it installs. Perfect for an outside panel with breakers in it. The description says it takes a 2.5" knockout, but that is "trade size". It actually uses a 3" knockout. Once installed it is barely noticeable, rather than having a separate box for an inlet. The inlet uses 3 machine screws that go through the housing and into a backing plate put on the inside of the panel. It's a little bit finicky getting it mounted and aligned, so take your time and watch to make sure the gasket doesn't get bunched up. To be safe and code-compliant, make sure to use this in conjunction with a transfer switch, or a manual interlock system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Make sure you have Clearance under the knockout Hi, Great deal if you already have a box and a transfer switch. My concern was the clearance to a sub panel under my transfer switch. The plug that gos inside is 4.5" long plus a little more for the cord.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, better value than unit in metal case This is a great item if you have an existing panel that you can install it in and don't really need a separate metal box.
