Customer Questions & Answers

Can probe wire be spliced to extend distance from probe to alarm

Asked by: Anonymous
The instructions say yes. I'm sure there is a distance limit, but being that's its driven with a 9 volt battery and the probe is attached by copper wire, you shouldn't have a problem. Its easy to test, just splice it in and tongue test the probe or use a cup of water.

Can it be used in a sewage lift station?

I installed a sewage lift station wiith a Flotec pump I got at Home Depot. I agree that it is cost effective, if it will work in this application.
Asked by: RICK
Mine corroded the detection end in a few months. I am going ot try a different brand, but a float type may be the best, especially if you still have the lid off the pit.

What is the minimum depth of water it can detect ?

Asked by: Anonymous
As soon as both probes touch the same body of water, it will do off. So stick it on your tongue, spit on it..whatever, it will go off. Also stops as soon as it is removed from the body of water. Keep in mind, this won't work in distilled water, but who monitors the level of distilled water anyway?

Where can i find a power adaptor ?
Asked by: Razvan
Any 9 volt AC adapter with a 3.5 mm, tip positive plug will work. They are readily available online but not at homedepot.com.

Work well until it actually went off the second time (over a 4 month period) After that there was no way to stop it. Seriously, such a simple product, should be more reliable then twice and then trashed?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Short-lived Worked great for about 2 months. I tested it and it seemed loud enough, and worked very well. I hung it about 6" from the top of my sewage ejection pump pit, and after about two months our power went out and the water level got high enough to set it off. Worked great! problem is.... It would never shut off again. I dried it out for a few days, but noticed the sensor had corroded enough that it just wouldn't work anymore. I read another review that said the same thing... the thing would just never shut off after drying it out. I am going to try a different type from Home Depot. Hopefully it lasts longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Easy to setup and use. Alarm is plenty loud to alert you when water level is too high.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked for a few weeks, then went off continuously. I put this alarm in a dry spot inside my sump. It seemed to work for a few weeks, then this morning I heard the alarm going off. The sump pump is working fine, so I pulled the probe up from the hole where it floats above the normal water level. The probe was completely dry and yet the alarm still continued. I tried swapping batteries, and even brought it inside into the air conditioning thinking maybe the high humidity in the hole caused it, but the alarm does not ever shut off. I'm going to try to order another one and see if maybe this unit in particular was just faulty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from get one for whatever little cost this was, everyone should have one. my problem is float control gets stuck sometimes with dirt. plus, this is cheaper than back up battery operated pump, which I know several people who had failures with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty straight forward! 15$ insurance policy.....ummm should be a no brainer! Zip tied to discharge tube, pinched lead weight on sensor, and mount on the wall! My 9 yr. old could do it! My only complaint is that the sensor wire should be at least a couple feet longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for I wanted a water alarm that I could lower part way into a sump crock - I want to know when the water level is high, but not overflowing. Other alarms are for a flat surface, at which point the water would've already overflowed. However, with the wire on this unit, I can put it down about 2" from the top of the crock and be warned prior to overflow, so that I can take corrective action before a problem occurs. Battery is easy to install, alarm is sufficiently loud.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from looking for another like many others posted, I installed the alarm in my sump, the water level is fine but the alarm was triggered. After many ways of trying to dry it out (had gotten splashed on in the sump) it won't shut off. Waste of $15.
