Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use this for a three prong dryer?

Asked by: chris
This is a four wire, 120/240 plug configuration. It is probably not the proper plug for your dryer.

My receptacle has the "L" prong pointing out. The female plug on my power cord has the "L" ponting in. Is there an adapter for this?

Asked by: jthac2709
The ground plug that points out is probably a 20 amp L14-20 configuration (check the receptacle to be sure). This plug with the ground that points in is a 30 amp L14-30 configuration. There is no adapter to go from one to the other, but you can replace the plug on your cord with a 20 amp plug like Reliance Controls model L1420P, internet no. 202216502. Simply cut off the end that doesn't match and attach the proper plug (or connecter).

What color wire goes to each terminal

Asked by: Jd
Generally, the neutral (white wire) goes to the terminal marked "W", the ground (green wire) goes to the terminal marked "G", and the hots (red and black wires) go to the terminals marked "X" and "Y". The colors of wire in your cord may vary.

what is the 4th connector for?

I can only find 240V 10/3 wire. I need this to hook up to my generator for my well pump.
Asked by: barnabas
This plug has two hot leads, a neutral, and a ground. Most 10/3 wire also has a ground wire for a total of four wires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Twist lock plug model L1430P This plug is very sturdy. It is fairly easy to assemble even if one has only limited experience with these types of units. The only problem I encountered with assembly was with the built-in cable clamp. I was using no. 10 four wire lead cable for my feed into my transfer switch. This cable is approximately 3/4 of an inch in diameter, including insulation. The built-in cable clamp on this unit was too small to properly fasten my size cable to the plug without potentially cutting the insulated sheathing as the screws for the clamp get tightened. However, with a little bit of filing and grinding, the inside semi-circles of the cable clamp were easily increased to incorporate my no. 10 electrical cable and hold it securely to the plug.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality connector It would have been nice to have had it in stock, on the shelf, during the hurricane instead of my needing to order it and receive it 2 weeks after. My fault for procrastinating and not getting a generator setup weeks in advance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality product Very rugged design and easy to install. I use it with my 7000 Watt emergency generator and it works great. Only negative is that it took a few days to get it since it must be ordered.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cord grip design stinks The cord grip design on this connector belongs on a cheap 15 amp extention cord.
