I ordered this new Remington to replace an older model that I had great service from for about 10 years, which finally gave up. The first RM1645 I received was a bad one- the motor was spitting fire and smoke was curling out of it. Home D. was, as usual, really good about taking it back. So, I ordered another (same model) and upon receiving it, checked it out on the bench before trying it out. It worked flawlessly. There are a couple of improvements that I like (auto-oiler and thumb-screw tightening) that seem to work really well. I hope I have this one another ten years.

Saw works good for small home use. Not so good for falling complete tree but it's fine for trimming.

I have had two of these units. They both failed when the plastic teeth stripped in the drive gear. I thought perhaps it was my fault so I purchased another. The second failed in less than a month. They need to use a different materiel for there teeth.

I've had several chainsaws, both gas and electric. This is the best one I've owned. I've had it for about 6yrs. and I just cut down a tree with a 14" trunk. There was never a question of enough power. The gas saw would have stalled out. I recommend this saw highly.

I've owner this for about 7 years. Now, it has sat there and done nothing over the years except cut a couple 4x4's for the garden. I have cut down trees and cut up hard downed trees.
It is not a gas powered engine so don't expect to be so. BUT, it goes through everything I cut like a hot knife through butter. Just sharpen that chain as you would any chain saw and it performs without struggling. And, it is quiet and light.
Use it for what it was meant for and you shouldn't have problems (except manufacturing problems as mentioned before). Mine is probably somewhat different since it is older.
