I live in OHIO and would think I wouldn't need it running in the winter. If its solar and comes on right away, how do you shut it off?

Tilt of solar panel

I see some models have a solar panel which can tilt up or down while others make it look like the panel is at a fixed angle. Does the 20 watt, 1280 CFM solar panel have an adjustable tilt?

The first fan that I received was the solar roof mount fan (Mfr. part numbers are similar) so I had to return it and have the correct one re-ordered. Called Home Depot's 800 number and received excellent service and a small discount for the error. Second time round was a charm and I received the gable fan as ordered. Installation was a breeze and my garage is so much cooler! I also ordered the ac adapter for this fan so that it might run on warm/humid days when there isn't much sun. I've also found that with the ac adapter that my fan runs 3 - 5 hours after the sun has set in order to further cool the garage, even though it seems cool enough to me. I would definitely purchase this again, and may do so to install it in the attic gable of my house.

Apparently easy to install (hired a handyman), hopefully solar power saves on electric bill. But I bought this one because it said it would take care of 1900 sq ft, as I remember. My house 1416 sq ft, plus garage 400 sq ft . . . should have covered my attic sq footage. This product is not doing the job. Hasn't made the difference I had hoped. Attic still hot. Fan not moving enough air, and I need a switch so I can keep it going in the eve after sundown, house at hottest. Had this installed about a month ago. Have kept track of temps inside and out several times a day. SW Washington.

We bought 2 (two) of this solar fan from Home Depot 2 years ago this last August. We had found mold in our attic shortly before we bought these. We had them installed by a roofing company when we had a whole new roof put on to our house to rectify the mold issue and also had the mold professionally remediated at the same time. The information provided by Home Depot says this fan will work on a home up to 1800 sq. per ft. of attic space. Our home (located in southwestern Idaho) has that amount or less. The fan does turn, but in my view is quite slow with about one revolution per 1 to 2 seconds when in full sun. This is not fast enough in my opinion to do any good. Now, two (2) years later the mold has come back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FAN.

You can feel decreased heat pressure coming down from the attic. You can also tell that the A/C strains less and actually cycles on and off. The fan is not loud by any means but if you live in a neighborhood where your house is only a few feet from your neighbor's window, then it can be heard. It just sounds like the hum of a bathroom vent fan. I recommend the hybrid adapter since my fan runs until about 11pm in July in Southern Ca. Customer service is excellent!

I had two installed in the roof of my 2900 sq ft single story home in Southeastern NC. Took about 2 hours and cost $250. They do not require a lot of sunlight to turn on, and kick in around 86deg F, which is nice. There is an optional 110 volt adapter for those that don't get a lot of sun or want cooling into the night, which of course solar can't do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solar Powered Roof Fan Fan mounted easy. Worked well in evening out temp in house, don't have central AC. I would suggest ordering 110 power supply as well. When sun goes temp shot back up before it gets totally dark. Solar alone isn't enough. Power supply will allow fan to run when low light conditions exist. Unit will run on solar first, then on hard line power. I will update this again when I get and install power supply.
