Answer:
You shouldn't have any problems with sleet or anything less than 2 inch hail. Anything greater than that will damage your roof and more than likely you'll have an insurance claim that will cover your fan for any damage. One interesting point, in six years we've had only one fan replacement due to hail that we know of. It was grapefruit sized hail in Texas. And it was an insurance claim.

Answer:
If you have the fan sized properly for your attic, you should expect a one and a half year pay back. That's a rough estimate but extremely realistic based on customer feedback.

According to the installation instructions, the AC-DC converter must be plugged in at all times when connected to the fan or the chip in the converter will be damaged. If the electricity goes out does that mean the chip will be damaged since no electricity will be going to the converter?

Answer:
The 110v adapter is designed to operate with both AC (house) and DC (solar) power connected. It is designed to withstand power outages, but you cannot put it on a "switch". You must keep it connected to operate properly.

I live in Florida and I have a simple ranch style house that is under a 1000 sq. ft. living space. The old oil heater vent is still on the roof and thought this would be a great use of a hole already cut in the roof but not sure since it does slightly face the east if I need a tiltable one or not? I don't want to buy a flat one only to find out that I need the other. I was also curious if you know of any solar rebates that apply in Florida? Thanks for your time.

Home Depot has a 500 CFM solar powered roof mount exhaust fan which has tilt and swivel design. I have installed this model on my roof which has eastward tilt and have used a few washer under the swivel base to compensate for eastward tilt. Both models need a 15' diameter circular whole on the roof for proper installation. I highly recommend reading specification on line or on YouTube. Read Less

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 60 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Solar Powered Attic fan design I purchased these fans to replace 2 almost identical 8 year old fans, which had failed. The problem with the old fans and the new fans is, that there isn't a way to service or trouble shoot problems from the roof, only from the attic which is impossible. Upon inspection of the failed fans, revealed that the only problem with both fans was the motor brushes had worn out, otherwise the fans were in good shape. It would have added value to the fans to have the motors accessible from the roof, and also to have a parts list. Now that I know what to expect, the next failure will be, while not easy, possible to repair. I think the quality is there, just not the serviceability. October 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well built, works as described The product was well packaged and arrived complete and without damage. The construction and design of the fan was well done. Paint quality is great. From the time I grabbed my ladder, drilled a small hole from within the attic, and then went out onto the roof to cut a larger hole and install it, my ladder was back where I store it about an hour later. Super easy, leak-tight installation. I used some electrical tape as 'tassles' that I can watch from the ground to see when the fan is operating. It starts moving air with only small amounts of incident sunlight in the early morning hours or through cloudy skies. And it really moves the air with direct afternoon sunlight. I have only had it in for about a month, so not sure what gains I'll get in electric bill and reduced air-conditioner time, but regardless, this product definitely reduces attic temperatures which will no doubt help. The break-even ROI may be many years down the road, but I know my attic is cooler now, so I sleep better knowing I did what I could to reduce those temps and improve shingle life, air-conditioner cycling, etc. GREAT to not have to run wiring up into the attic and pay for electricity to power a fan. Highly recommend this fan and a solar solution for attic cooling. July 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Working Installed for customer prior to their settlement date on house sale. Installation was easy. Unit came right on in the sunlight. Didn't come with a bar to adjust the solar panel pitch though. If it was something that I needed , I would have had to make it myself September 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Ventilates quite a bit of attic. Dropped the attic temperature by 10 degrees. Works on solar and I like the tilt panel feature. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly Effective! Easy to install, moves almost as much air as an AC powered exhaust fan, and is much quieter than the AC powered fan it replaced. Excellent product. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT ATTIC FAN REALLY QUIET AND COOLS THE ATTIC AND HENCE MAKESHOUSE COOLER August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Satisfied customer The installation of my solar fan was very simple, and great quality. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product. Currently I have two of these vents on my house one on my garage and one venting part of my attic that previously did not have any ventilation. My garage is a one car garage and during the summer it was unbearable to be in there for more than a few minutes. However, now with the vent installed there is a noticeable difference in the temperature. Also to note that even though that the solar panel does not get direct sunlight in the morning the fan still is able to preform however not as effective. As of now I have ordered another two of these vents for the rest of my home but unfortunately not from Home Depot because they have been out of stock for some time now. Other than that installation was a breeze and so far the performance is excellent I would defiantly recommenced this product. July 9, 2013
