I only have 1 full height cabinet and the opening is 11.5 "... It seems the unit would easily fit for it and the item I'm putting on the shelf would fit nicely.. Is their a reason for the restriction?

I'm pretty sure the answer is it depends on the shelf width you need. With that information I could figure exactly what size opening would be needed for a particular width Read More

I'm looking at a picture of it on their website with the famous KitchenAid mixer on it. I'm just about positive that's an 18" cabinet, having a 15" opening, and the shelf the mixer is on has at least an inch of space on either side of the mixer. So it looks like it would easily work in a 13" opening with a shelf 2" narrower than that, which the mixer would still fit on comfortably. Having said all that, the 12.5" number makes sense, but it needs to be clarified.
I wish Rev-A-Shelf could just say somewhere "minimum opening required is the desired width of your shelf plus x inches" and tell us exactly what value x is. Read Less

This is a mistake in the Marketing Copy and Bullets. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
The mixer lift consist of two arms that are roughly 4" inches in width, so it would fir your opening.

Can I install in a cabinet with a drawer?

I realize the mixer will not raise to counter height, but to have the mixer up and out, even 6-8 inches below counter top, would help moving the heavy mixer to the counter. If the arms are dropped due to the drawer, will there be enough room to retract the shelf back and down into the cabinet?

You may not have the space you need in the cabinet if you leave a full drawer (I did not have enough space in my cabinet). You could install this below a drawer, but you may have to screw in a solid piece of wood at the top of the cabinet as a separator to properly install the lift. I was not willing to lose both a cabinet and a drawer, so we ended up gluing the drawer façade onto an extended cabinet door to keep the appearance of a drawer on the outside, then built a drawer at the very bottom of the cabinet for the rolling pins, measuring cups, etc. We used slides that allow the drawer to open fully so that I still have access to everything in the drawer even without pulling the mixer out. Answer:
Yes! I have mine installed high enough to have a drawer underneath for the attachments, rolling pins, measuring cups, etc. The position where you install the mechanism in the cabinet depends on the height of your mixer, so if your mixer is a standard height, you should have plenty of room to put in a drawer or basket.

Answer:
The lift can be installed lower in the cabinet than pictured, BUT you may still not have clearance with the mixer on the shelf during movement. At least with Home Depot, you have 90 days to figure it out and return if you can't make it work.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it!!! I have had a Kitchen Aid mixer for about 3 years and have rarely used it because of limited counter space and having to store it inside a bottom cabinet. Luckily when we moved to a new house and remodeled the kitchen I had enough space to install the Rev-A-Shelf mixer lift. My husband installed it yesterday and it is so awesome. I will be getting a lot more use of my mixer now. Super Happy with quality and function. And bonus it arrived 3 days after I ordered it. August 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Lift A challenge to install with a drawer above the cabinet but it is possible! I love the convenience of using and stowing away the mixer without lifting the weight. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A real back saver My husband installed this appliance lift for my heavy mixer. He also installed drawers that I purchased at the same time on line, in another cabinet.. It is a back saver for me not to bend down and haul the mixer out of the cabinet. Just reach in and pull it out and lock in place. I even have space under the tray for cookie sheets. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Peasy Pros: Good price, easy to install, spring mechanism came preset to the force required for my Artisan mixer. Cons: Instructions seemed to be a copy of a copy of a copy - blurred and hard to read. I ended up downloading a pdf. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sturdy and works smoothly I have the biggest mixer KitchenAid makes and this mixer-lift handles it well. I didn't have a spare cabinet big enough so DH built a faux cabinet in my pantry to put this in. July 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Quit before finishing install So I ordered this having decided that I use my stand mixer frequently but I still wanted it off of my counter. We began the installation (6 in board on each side, etc.) and the other person that was helping me held the arms where they would go and engaged them. I truly didn't think about the fact that I had a drawer above my cabinet and it would only pop up to the top of the cabinet portion, not to counter height. Not a bad product, just food for thought if you have a drawer above your cabinet. Returning mine, it would bug me too much. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantasic product I bought this lift system for my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. I have the professional series, which is heavier and taller than average. The lift system seems to handle the extra weight and height with no problems, and we even had enough space in the cabinet underneath the mechanism to install a drawer for measuring cups, rolling pins, etc. (not shown in pic). The mechanism itself is very easy to use, and the handles are very easy to grasp and hold onto. The installation only took about 20 minutes (not including measuring and planning), and my husband had no problem adjusting the tension to accommodate the larger mixer. We used two pieces of 3/4 inch plywood for the top and just edged it with some leftover trim from another project. No complaints so far, owned and used a little over a month. August 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product It's wonderful! I recently remodeled my kitchen and had my cabinet maker install this. I rarely used my Kitchenaid Mixer because it is so heavy to store and set up. It is so easy now, all you do is pull the shelf towards you and it lifts up and locks in place. When you are done, just pull the lever in the front and it releases the lock and glides back into place. Love it! July 8, 2015
