Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Too Noisey I had to return this water heater to Home Depot due to the high noise level, The transformer noise is constant, the pump sound was like a car engine running and the compressor was obnoxious. I had the heater in a laundry room in a one story condo, door closed. Still I could not live with this.To me, it would be too noisey even in a basement. I am sorry to miss out on the Green Savings probably associated with this heater. March 20, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Hot Water Heater Made I removed a propane hot water heater due to high cost of propane. The Rheem hybrid electric uses less that 1/3 the energy cost. Very east to install. 2 water connections, 1 drain connection and 3 wires. Piece of cake. Very quite operation. Much faster hot water recovery than propane. Best hot water heater I ever had. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ease of install. Very easy installition for average handyman. Good, well written instructions. 2-Children under 18, 1-22 yr. old, And 2- over 45-yr., No lack of hot water yet. Anxious to see 1st water bill. April 30, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great But There Are Things to Know Up Front I purchased this hot water heater to take advantage of the federal tax credit and save on electricity. Our rural electric cooperative also gave us a credit for purchasing an Energy Star hot water heater (HWH). The plus side is that it is easy to install and hookup is very similar to a standard HWH. It has an all electric mode that heats water just like a standard electric water heater if you need hot water fast. The recovery time in energy saver mode depends on the air temperature around the unit, the colder, the longer it takes. If it is too cold it will automatically turn on the resistance heaters. The cons are: (1) it has to be placed in a open space of at least 1000 sq ft with consistent air temperature above 40F. So no closet installations and no outside installation. It has to have a large air source to make hot water efficiently. (2) It must have access to a drain, either outside or sewer as it makes condensate water similar to an air conditioner. (3) It is noisy compared to a standard HWH. It has a circulator pump that hums, a fan that is noisy on high speed and a compressor that hums. If you can put up with these negatives, then you can save half on your hot water heating costs compared to a standard electric HWH. In our case about $250 a year. January 30, 2011
