Rated 3 out of 5Â by Dave Rheem hybrid heat pump water heater, Compressor not working company does not have fix
I have installed my water heater it was fairly easy. But energy saver and heat pump only mode send it in to an alarm shut down mode code A004 compressor suction trip.So I called the 800 # and technical support said the company knows they have an issue with this problem but has no fix for it. They will let me know when they do ,I'm on their list so for now it is in electric mode only. It heats water better than my old electric only heater, but no energy saving yet.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Winter Quality Water Heater
A quality water heater. I had a local plumbing company install, just to avoid future issues with pipes. Install was smooth and fast. Had hot water within about 30-45 minutes of turning the unit on. The fan on the heat pump is a little noisy, but since it's in the utility room, I don't notice it. An occasional whirring is worth the cost savings. I imagine the savings would be maximized in a hotter climate than up here in Alaska. Also, the touch screen is very responsive and easy to use. I will try to update this review when I get my next electric bill (for comparison).

Rated 1 out of 5Â by JENA Worried! After reading all these reviews !
I am concerned because I to purchased this water heater and now have the same issue with the alarm and suction tip etc! I had previously purchased the GEO SPRING by GE and was so impressed not much noise kept my laundry room very cool. BUT brought it back because husband found this one that matched our appliances and he thought the air would blow more from the sides than the back making the room cooler. Well my opinion is that the RHEEM HYBRID IS MUCH LOUDER DOES NOT SEEM TO COOL AS MUCH AND ALREADY AFTER ONLY BEING HOOKED UP FOR 4 DAYS TOPS HAS NOW ALARMED WITH THE SUCTION TIP ISSUE AND IS MAKING A LOUDER NOISE AND IS GIVING OFF HEAT MAKING MY LAUNDRY ROOM UNBEARABLE! SO TAKE IT FROM ME THIS WATER HEATER DOES NOT HAVE ALL THE KINKS OUT OF IT DONT BUY IT!!! I AM VERY UPSET RIGHT NOW AND CANNOT BELIEVE I WASTED MY TIME AND MONEY ON THIS!!! Do some research first.. Like I am now doing!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Ben13 Glad I read the reviews!
Man, am I glad I read the reviews before I picked this water heater up! I was replacing an old fuel oil water heater and decided to give the hybrid heat pump thing a try. Though it was a little more expensive than the comparable GE model, I chose the Rheem for the extra features and customizability. My local store didn't sell the product so I drove 90 miles one way to the nearest store that did. I had no more than begun to unpack the new heater when I saw to my horror that the entire top section had been smashed as if someone had set something heavy on top of it (still confused about how this happened, as the box was in perfect shape). So I drove the 90 mile treck for the third time to exchange the water heater (luckily they had one more in stock). When I got to Home Depot, the new heater was waiting for me on a fork lift with the department manager, a loading crew, and a member of the customer service department all waiting to help me out. Everyone was intrigued with the damage and the department manager was very interested in my feedback as this was the first of these heaters the store had sold (they had only started carrying them two days before). I was back on the road in no time with the second heater. Installation took about 4 hours (it would have been under an hour but I was putting the heater in a different location and switching from oil to electric, so a lot of this time was plumbing and wiring, unrelated to the water heater itself). After reading the reviews on here about faulty compressors and trouble with the heaters being shipped on their sides, I was a little nervous the unit would work at all but it's been in for a week now and we couldn't be happier. I installed a meter on the line running to the water heater to monitor energy consumption and I've found that in energy saver mode, I use about 1.84kw per average shower (from the time the heat pump kicks on until it has fully recovered). That's about $0.20/shower. Unbelievable.
The only thing I might have done differently if I were the average consumer is been patient and waited for HD to deliver the heater themselves. It is very top heavy and would stick up about 4 feet over the top of the cab of my pickup so I picked it up in a van body truck where I was able to secure it properly. It was very tempting to pick it up and lay it down in the bed of my pickup but I can tell you from personal experience that his will ruin the inner workings of the compressor and that you will just become one more person lowering the rating of this wonderful piece of energy efficient technology.

I just did this review to respond to the others listed. Had mine hooked up about a week, very happy with it, until I got the alarms as mentioned in the other reviews. I called Rheem service tech, explained alarms, asked if it was transported laying down, yes, even though I questioned Home Depot about laying it down because of the compressor. Got it home and it sat upright for about a week before installing it. The Rheem tech told me that's why they are getting a majority of their phone calls because it was laid down and the compressor/refrigerant leaked out. Rheem acknowledges it's their fault too because the shipping carton on the outside wasn't marked, " Keep Upright" and they have since updated their packaging. Home Depot is giving me another Rheem Hybrid water heater to replace this one. Hopefully that was the problem and I can write a better review after I install the new one, running great on just the electric until I can get to it after the holidays. Hope this solves or answers some of your problems.
