Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Easy install - performs as expected - on track for fuel savings. March 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Could not be more pleased with this purchase The 50 gallon water heater at my vacation home burnt out (due to a critter building a nest on top of it) so I took the opportunity to replace it with a tankless water heater. I saw little point keeping 50 gallons of water hot when I wasn't there so the tankless design will also save me money during the year. I decided to hire a plumber to do the installation and he had the old heater out in 15 minutes and the new one installed and providing hot water within 2 hours - very impressive. I could have probably done it in 6 hours but this was low investment for the satisfaction of getting it done right first time. The installation was delayed a week since I didn't order a vent kit - the special needs of this tankless heater could not be met with the previous venting system. I recommend other people order a vent kit at the same time as ordering the tankless heater. The plumber put the control panel next to the heater (see photo) - I will probably move this into the home to have the comfort of seeing the panel working! The near-instant hot water is GREAT and there is no chance of a critter building a nest on top of this one! June 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good product I have been using this water heater for a year now. It was a replacement for a tank heater. I am very pleased with the performance with this unit. I recently had 5 relatives visit and with everyone taking showers one after the other in two bathrooms the same time we never ran out of HOT water. My electric bill has also gone down a little because the unit I got is gas. Very pleased with this unit, I installed the unit my self but have been doing my own plumbing for 30 + years. April 7, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Do your research. The installation instructions are very good for this item, but be very careful in ordering. Do you need an LP unit or a natural gas unit? DO you already have 3/4 in pipe leading from your gas source to the unit? Have you purchased enough of the special venting to make it to the exhaust area? Are you prepared to cut a bigger hole in your roof? Have you purchased the additional emergency and cutoff valves? Will the product really work for the plumbing configuration for your house, and will you be using water in sufficient volume to get the unit to turn on and stay running? Make sure the answer to all these questions is YES before you buy this. Kudos to you for looking for an eco-friendly solution. We discovered very quickly that what we ordered was not going to work; Thank You Home Depot for accepting our return. January 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product with long install Great product and have used this for 1 year now. You can not run out of hot water. Watch install. Because this type of vent pipe is very expensive you will relocate the heater if converting from a standard tank heater just to minimize the vent distance. Note water inlet and outlet need 3/4 inch with consideration for draining water on loss of heat. The gas line install needs install with consideration that this unit in "high" uses as much gas as a whole house furnace. Electric circuit should be GFI. Oh, and don't forget a place to dump the condensate drain. Depending on your local gov you will need between two and four building permits to convert from a tank heater to this unit. I am completely satisfied but did spend 20 plus hours on a quality install and had to have two inspections to comply with permits. October 16, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by too much bother thought this would work to replace the existing unit installed in the same space upgraded the propane line to 3/4" direct to heater kept receiving error "propane" suggested that we replace the vent pipe at a cost of $400 apx returned the unit and installed an electric neater no problem there saved about $700 August 18, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by important venting issue nobody tells you this at purchase time but special class 3 concentrical venting is required, it can not be purchased locally and can only be bought in certain lengths and it can not be cut, going on my second week without hot water, cost extra to have venting overnighted, even without freight 22 feet of venting cost as much as the heater itself. March 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by worth the expense The real value of the tankless water heater will come when we get the bills related to the item. That being said, we are very excited that the only time we hear the water heater, which is minimal compared with the tank type, is when hot water is being used. Great purchase. As to the question of "ease of installation" you would have to ask the professional who installed it, but he did say that when he needs a new water heater, he is going to buy a Rheem. June 10, 2015
