I have heard of many heat exchange failures related to mineral scale. The specific warranty exclusion seems to acknowledge this issue. Is this product not recommended for hard water environments? What are the water quality requirements?

Answer:
It can be installed in hard water environments, but it is suggested to add a filter or a scale inhibitor before the water heater to help prevent build up and corrosion.

I am wanting to install this in an off grid location and am very sensitive to electricity consumption. What is the estimated KWH use annually for this unit. Also, it says it has a plug, so an outlet is needed, is there a hard wire version?

Answer:
Hi Ben, the electricity consumption is based off of your usage. This unit can be hardwired as well. Please consult an electrician for more information. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Easy install - performs as expected - on track for fuel savings. March 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than more expensive one that it replaced I was very pleased with the results. I have an endless supply of hot water and it holds the temp even with my well pump pressure. You do not have to be a plumber to install, just need a few simple tools and a couple of hours. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Rheem 6.4 GPM Had a bad experience with the install. HD was out of stock of the convection manifold for the unit. Had to source on-line which was very challenging. I will say the folks at Rheem are very helpful...although Home Depot staff does not know this product at all... February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Could not be more pleased with this purchase The 50 gallon water heater at my vacation home burnt out (due to a critter building a nest on top of it) so I took the opportunity to replace it with a tankless water heater. I saw little point keeping 50 gallons of water hot when I wasn't there so the tankless design will also save me money during the year. I decided to hire a plumber to do the installation and he had the old heater out in 15 minutes and the new one installed and providing hot water within 2 hours - very impressive. I could have probably done it in 6 hours but this was low investment for the satisfaction of getting it done right first time. The installation was delayed a week since I didn't order a vent kit - the special needs of this tankless heater could not be met with the previous venting system. I recommend other people order a vent kit at the same time as ordering the tankless heater. The plumber put the control panel next to the heater (see photo) - I will probably move this into the home to have the comfort of seeing the panel working! The near-instant hot water is GREAT and there is no chance of a critter building a nest on top of this one! June 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect!! Works perfectly!!Never run out of hot water again! December 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by radiant heat source Very quiet and does good job heating the water for my floor heat. Easy to install. October 23, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by too much bother thought this would work to replace the existing unit installed in the same space upgraded the propane line to 3/4" direct to heater kept receiving error "propane" suggested that we replace the vent pipe at a cost of $400 apx returned the unit and installed an electric neater no problem there saved about $700 August 18, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by worth the expense The real value of the tankless water heater will come when we get the bills related to the item. That being said, we are very excited that the only time we hear the water heater, which is minimal compared with the tank type, is when hot water is being used. Great purchase. As to the question of "ease of installation" you would have to ask the professional who installed it, but he did say that when he needs a new water heater, he is going to buy a Rheem. June 10, 2015
