I chose this unit to replace my previous tankless water heater because of its capacity and efficiency rating. Rheem/Rudd has always had a very good reputation in water heaters. I have had the unit running for a couple weeks now and it does a great job. It is in my garage so I do not hear it in the house, that said it does not seem noisy when I am in the garage and it is running. The control panel is simple and lets you set the outlet temperature over a very wide range.
This was an upgrade for me. When I had installed the previous unit I had a professional plumber upgrade my gas lines to handle the load. As long as I had the wall opened up, I had him drop the water lines down lower for easier connection.
That having been done previously , the installation of this unit was fairly simple and straightforward. I used the method I had used previously to mount the unit on the wall. I secured two lengths of 2X4 to the wall studs at the appropriate heights for hanging the new unit. The old unit used 5" class B vent. I pulled it out and left the roof flashing in place and added a thermal plastic adjustable flashing to seal up around the new pipe. Be aware that the 3" and 4" PVC SCD 40 is not stocked at most home stores either order what you need or know where to find it locally. I did order and use the concentric roof piece made by Rheem as well as the service valves by Wellstone. The valves will be worth the cost when maintenance is required particularly descaling. You will need 1/2" inner diameter tubing to run for a drain line from the condensing chamber to a plumbing drain.
I strongly recommend anyone that wants to install this unit on their own to download the manual from Rheem and read it thoroughly before ordering. This way you can order everything you will need at the same time.

Took the plunge from an old school hot water heater to a new tankless heater, so glad that I did. The Rheem unit is highly attractive, works flawlessly, and the intall with awesome instructions really made me look like a pro. If you know how to "sweat pipe" you're in really good shape.
Make sure you order the valve kit, as seen in my photos and others photos.

So far the new water heater is working perfectly. Takes about 30 seconds for the hot water to arrive at the faucet but the hot water keeps coming as promised.
Be sure to check your overall BTU requirements before installing. You may need to upgrade your meter if you have a high efficiency furnace.

My old hot water tank was starting to go so I decided to go for a Tankless water heater. I looked around and this tank was the best one I could find on the market. A few things to keep in mind when buying this is how many BTU your gas meter is rated for. My Meter was rated for 250k BTU. So this water heater is 199k and my furnace is 70k so if both units are running the meter cant supply the proper gas for both so I did need to upgrade my meter. It was about $100.00 to have a larger meter put in by my gas company. Also I had to buy isolation shut off valves so you can flush the unit out when you need to do maintenance, The vales were about $60.00. This heater can installed if you are handy and good with plumbing. The PVC to vent makes it real easy to run the vent outside. The unit also comes with a outside over plate to cover the 2 vents to go outside, This gives a nice finished look. This unit does create condensation and has a drain tube for it, so you will need a drain near by to run the condensation drain to. I have it draining into my sump pump. The unit turns on and heats the water up quick, My old tanked hot water tank would take about 15-20 seconds to get hot water at my taps with this tankless unit it takes about 25 seconds to get hot water at my taps. Once the water is hot it stays hot. I have had no issues with water temp fluctuations or issues with this unit not supplying enough hot water. This tankless heater is a must if you have a large soaking bath tub because you can fill it with as much hot water as you want. The thermostat only allows you to turn the water up to 120 degrees but there is a trick to be able to get it up to 140. In all this tank is a great unit and Im glad I spent the extra money and got the Tankless unit

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Baba Excellent product except
this is a great hot heater it never seem to run out off hot water even when doing dishes and laundry you can take a hot shower.. It's simple to install and works fine when you need it to . However, there are a few things that I must say need to be known. There heater takes a pretty long time to send hot water to the fixtures. The heater makes a loud whirling sound when the hot water is turned on. Over all I like it and would recommend that people purchase this type of sysem for their home.

I ordered the unit online and had a plumber install it. After the unit was mounted, all utilities were connected and new venting was installed, the plumber started the startup procedure.
1. first thing to check was if there was any gas leaks, that went fine.
2. second was to check for water leaks. The plumber turned on the water and the unit started to fill up with water. water was flowing out from the front panel and out of every crevasse. Crash and burn!
After the water was turned off and the front panel removed for the first time. The plumber noticed that one of the internal pipe clip was missing and the water manifold pipe had bursted out from its coupling. He checked for the clip inside the unit and it was nowhere to be found.
The unit was shipped without any type of pressure test or else they would have picked that up. I understand if the clip had fallen off during shipping, but this unit was straight up missing the clip.
The plumber called Rheems and they confirmed that the clip should have been there and claimed that they would overnight the clip to the house.
Almost a week went by and no clip showed up. I personally called multiple times and they would not give me information about when they clip would arrive. I had to have Home Depot call with me on the line for them to let me know that they shipped the clip via standard mail. Meanwhile i'm stuck without a water heater in Salt Lake City. UT (water temp avg 40 degrees) for a week.
Not to mention the probable water damage incurred due to the unit being filled with water.

We installed one of these in my dads home in Utah where the winter water temp is really cold.He has had his for a year now. He did a test during the dead of winter with the washer and dish washer going. He showered upstairs and mom downstairs. Long showers and no problems with temp or volumn. so have had issues with delay of hot water to the tap or shower. This has proven to be minimal and barely noticable over a reg water heater. Just finished my install last night looking forward to having one as well.

Our old 22 year old hot water heater started to leak & needed to be replaced...So my brother suggested that I go with a tankless water heater & he would install it...It will pay for itself in the long run, with the savings in our natural gas bill...I love it so far, were able to run the washer, dishwasher & take a showers all at the same time without running out of hot water...The only issue we had was on the installation, it took longer than expected because our local hardware store didn't carry all the supplies we needed & I had to make a 1 1/2 hour roundtrip to our closest Home Depot...So plan on spending about $200 extra on installation supplies...but it is well worth it!
