How to Choose Your Rheem EcoSense Tankless Electric

Choose your application, ie. shower, bath tub or vanity sink-faucet, kitchen sink faucet or washer. See chart below.

For example: you choose a kitchen sink faucet.

See application chart below and locate your flow rate. For example: your flow rate is 1.5 gpm.

On the map, locate the average water temperature in your area.

For example: your water temperature (in Atlanta) is 55°

Use the water temperature and flow rate chart to determine the model you need.

    For example: 1.5 gpm flow rate + 55° = RETE 9.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 2.9 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Delivers warm water at reduced volume I purchased this product because I wanted to do a simple replacement of the old water heater without wiring in a new line for a higher amperage requirement tankless water heater. This was rated at 30 amps, which is the same as my old one. Installation was easy, but you need to buy adapters because this has a 1/2" feed while the standard water heater uses 3/4" pipe. The water is mildly hot at the highest setting of the thermostat. I live in Hawaii, so if you live in a cold clime don't expect to get hot water. Also, the water flow is reduced because of the smaller pipe. If you have a large family, this is not the right choice. Overall, I would rate it as average. October 9, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Does Not Work in the Northeast! Why do you ship this product to users in the Northeast when it can't be used here? I purchased and installed 70' of #10-3 cable, only to be told be Rhem that the unit can't be used in this climate. You should send me $200 for the cable and my time to install it! December 23, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Product Purchased this tankless water heater to replace a 30 gallon tank in our garage bathroom. Easy installation if you can sweat copper. Does not put out a lot of hot water, but enough for normal sink use or taking a shower. November 11, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good for 1 sink if incoming water is not too cold I installed the 7kw heater to boost the water temperature at a sink in the garage, far from our main water heater. It does the job; no more waiting for the water to warm up to wash my hands (or using freezing cold water). This heater may not be adequate if your groundwater is cold or you need a high flow rate (shower, dishwasher). Our groundwater comes in at 45˚F and this unit is not able to make it hot without help from our main water heater. But as a booster for the sink it works great. It activates at a low flow rate, so you don't need to run a lot of water to have it hot. It is compact and fairly easy to install. It fit in the cabinet under the sink. There were, however, no instructions for the electrical connection; I was initially confused by the wiring. The unit comes with a short cable out of the bottom so you don't need to open it up to connect the wiring. The cable had three wires—black, white and bare (ground). I always thought white was neutral, but in this case it is the other hot (usually red). Since it is a straight 240V appliance, it doesn't use a neutral, just the two hots and ground. Once I figured this out, installation was straightforward. The 7kW unit draws 29 amps, so it requires heavier wiring and a dedicated circuit; I converted a 30A circuit that was previously used for an electric dryer. I would recommend this for a single sink if your incoming water is not too cold and you don't need high flow rates. If you need more than this, then you should consider a bigger unit. Rated 4 out of 5 by Good product so far While we have only had this product about a week, it performs as advertised. It serves as a dedicated unit for the kitchen, which is the longest run in the house from our regular whole house on-demand unit (which takes an inordinately long time for hot water to reach the kitchen). The delivered water temperature and flow rate are highly dependent on the temperature of the incoming water and the temperature to which you want to raise it. In our case, the incoming water from a deep well is around 60 degrees. The unit is set to heat on its highest setting, so the water is hot enough but not steaming hot. The flow rate is adequate but not gushing - When you switch from hot to cold you see a slight increase in flow rate - not particularly meaningful. Adequate for the dish washer as well. If we wanted to get a higher temperature and flow rate we should have purchased the next size up, the RTE-9. It requires a 50 amp service and we decided to settle for the RTE-7 at 40 amps. I'm not totally comfortable sweating copper joints so we brought in our plumber, who installed it with no problems. July 24, 2014
