Hi, I have very hard water, >100 GPG hard in West Texas. My softener removes the hardness, yet will the elements in this unit not last due to no anode in the softened water?
Thanks

Answer:
Yes, this unit is not designed with an anode rod. The primary purpose of the anode is to protect a steel tank from corrosion and then developing a leak. Since the interior of a Marathon is plastic an anode rod is not needed.

Will this size hand Family of 6

Does this unit recharge fast enough to handle a family of 6? We are in San Angelo TX on well water. We currently have a Rheem 50 gallon water heater that is doing the job OK, I have it turned up to 150 degrees which is the max setting. I think having my 50 gallon heater turned up to 150F helps on recover. We have a rotten egg smell on hot water is why we are considering this unit.
Thanks

In the instance of a 50 gallon water heater only 35 gallons are usable before you will notice a drop in temperature.
Turning up you unit to 150 degrees is dangerous as you have increased you scalding danger to about 1 second. This does give you a bit more blended water but again this is dangerous and detrimental to your water heater. The higher the temperature above the recommended factory setting of 120 degrees will make you water heater and its parts wear out quicker.
With these things being known you clearly need a larger capacity water heater. Call into 800-431-1549 and speak with our technical support team who will ask a few questions and make a recommendation based on your answers. Read Less

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 74 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Water Heater Simpe straightforward installation. Also installed circulation pump which made a huge difference in availability of warm water at remote faucet. Great combination. Couldn't be more pleased August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product started to leak within months. Rheem pays just for the gasket - "Parts only warranty" Warranty is limited to "Parts only", no matter how old the unit is. July 4, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lifetime Warranty* I bought 2 of these recently. I'm not sure how well they will last and I'm not sure why you need to register them to get a lifetime warranty or why they cost so much. Will I own the house in another 10+ years to see if they last longer than my last ones??? Maybe. The reason I bought them was because my plumber recommend them because of the lifetime warranty, but even he has no idea how long they will last. Here's hoping.... The only reason I rated this medium and not higher is because it is newer and I have really no idea how long it will last or how it is performing compared to my old one. September 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failed in 4 years. I had this installed in my new house and after 4 years it is DEAD. The Warranty Page won't actually show you the warranty, and the warranty verification tool says it can't find the status of my hot water heater, even though the marketing department seems to be able to find its model from my serial number and send me marketing emails JUST FINE. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hot Water! We've had the Marathon tank for about 2 weeks and can't believe the difference in our water. It comes out hot almost instantly and has improved showering, laundry and dishes. We're very pleased and look forward to many years of happiness with our tank. October 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Faulty vacuum valve – beware Back in March of 2013, I bought a 50 gal. short model electric water heater and I recently discovered (Dec. 2015) that there was a small amount water leaking from the vacuum relief valve on the top of the unit. After some research, my contractor found out that is a common problem, contacted Rheem and they immediately sent out a replacement part at no cost. Unfortunately, I still ended up having to pay almost $400 in labor to replace a faulty vacuum valve that was a little more than 2 years old. I hope this will fix the issue, but I will have to continuously check the water heater for any leaks from this particular valve. Other reviewers have mentioned that they had to replace this part multiple times – which ends up being more costly than buying a regular water heater. February 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product! Great product and warranty! I would highly recommend this product! September 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I bought my Rheem when I bult my home 10 yrs ago. I bought my Rheem 10 yrs ago when I bult my home. Well after 10 yrs later it went out. Rheem was very nice in standing behind there product . They replace my Rheem with no problem. The only thing is you must fill out your warranty form for your new rheem that you receive.
