Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ebbie480 Faulty vacuum valve – beware
Back in March of 2013, I bought a 50 gal. short model electric water heater and I recently discovered (Dec. 2015) that there was a small amount water leaking from the vacuum relief valve on the top of the unit. After some research, my contractor found out that is a common problem, contacted Rheem and they immediately sent out a replacement part at no cost. Unfortunately, I still ended up having to pay almost $400 in labor to replace a faulty vacuum valve that was a little more than 2 years old. I hope this will fix the issue, but I will have to continuously check the water heater for any leaks from this particular valve. Other reviewers have mentioned that they had to replace this part multiple times – which ends up being more costly than buying a regular water heater.

This is my third one, 2 developed leaks, I think the quality control could be better. At least they replace for no cost.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fool Wanted a Tankless, but settled for this
My power supply could not support an electric tankless water heater of sufficient GPM, so I settled for this. The Rheem Marathon water heater. It had pretty good reviews and the design of the water heater made sense to me.
The installation was fairly easy, because of the location and the light weight of the water heater. The only reason I dinged it on quality is that at least one of the thermostats is inaccurate. After letting the water heater heat the water, I ran the water through the faucet and tested the temperature with an infrared tester. The temperature was running about 138° F, almost 20°F higher than it was supposed to be. I turned both thermostats to their lowest setting and it still ran in the mid to high 120s. After a while I noticed I had lost capacity and we were getting warm third person showers. I increased the lower thermostat to approx. the 125 setting and the temp is now in the low 130s.
I will eventually get it tuned in, but for the price I would expect the thermostats would be more accurate. On the plus side I measured the temperature of the outside of the tank and it was the same as the garage walls so there is very little thermal leakage. I have no idea yet if I am saving any money with this water heater, but time will tell. I should get plenty of time to tell, as it will never rust out!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BrianL Poor Product,Complex, Difficult to Install, Does Not Work
Product is difficult to secure, since it must be ordered online for curbside delivery. When delivered, complex installation due to shape of tank. Tank that was to be worry free from leaking for my lifetime, leaked within 12 hours. Highly not recommended
