Questions & Answers

what size wire for 25 amp breaker?

Asked by: Al
This water heater is 2000 Watts. According to ohms law you divide the wattage by the voltage to attain the current. The current therefore would be 16.667 Amps. #12 THHN is good for 20 amps, and #10 THHN is good for 30 Amps, however according to the NEC NFPA-70, you cannot use over 80% of the conductor rating and the overcurrent protection device must be rated to meet the conductor's rating . Therefore you have to use #10 or above. 25 amp breakers are difficult to find unless used in commercial or industrial applications. Not to say they cannot be found or ordered, but since you're going to have to go with #10 wire to maintain code compliance you should just go ahead and install a 30 amp single throw overcurrent device (breaker). This answer comes from a Master Electrician. Good luck!

Where is the temperature control? And what is the recovery time if you run out of hot water?

Asked by: BoatGirl
Temperature control you need to open the metal jacket, and you need a flat screwdriver to turn around the temperature gauge behind the insulation

2000 watt requires 20 amp breaker. Will a dedicated 20 amp breaker and 12 gauge wire (25' long) work ?

Asked by: Bob
yes you need a dedicated 20 amp breaker, i recommend a 10 or lower gauge wire, if you are concerned on energy efficiency the smaller the cable size the better.

Customer Reviews

Performance 10 Gal. 6 Year 2000-Watt Single Element Electric Point-Of-Use Water Heater is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wonder why I waited so long? I just finished a complete water pipe replacement in my home, and this was a gift to myself for the work done. I had to wait for hot water at my kitchen sink forever, all the gallons of water wasted a shame. I installed this heater inline with my larger unit, also a Rheem 40 gal, and now there is hot water as soon as I ask for it. Nice simple install under the counter. It does not take up much room. I did have to run power to it from a better source for the load factor only. I am an electrician so It has to be right, no corners to cut. Trust me you will wonder why you waited for the pleasure of real hot water when you need it, not tomorrow. Go for it and save water & time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little water heater I bought this for a cabin. I haven't finished the septic system yet so have not used it for a shower yet. I'll leave further feedback if I find it to be inadequate for 2 people who don't take long showers. The water has been plenty hot for dish washing and cleaning so far. Very simple install. Only negative feedback is that the water connections are offset from each other which makes for a plumbing nuisance. Also there is no drain and the pressure relief valve is in a bad location to reach if your plumbing is from behind the heater. Poor engineering from the plumbing aspect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Undercounter 2.5 gallon heater I look forward to receiving the unit I ordered through Home Depot, though more than 10 days have passed since I placed the order, and I have no confirmed shipper pickup date other than an HD claim that the shipment ought to have taken place today. I bought this unit as a replacement for a similar heater, made in the same factory about eight years ago and sold then under the "GE" brand. I had no problem with the unit I am replacing, but I believe the order processing system for the replacement is lacking. I understand that most Rheem products are much larger, but this unit easily falls within the dimension and weight limits for a UPS shipment to my local HD store. That it still sits at Rheem, awaiting a heavy freight pickup more than a week after the order was placed, seems unexcusable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy install Tank fits underneath our kitchen sink easily with some space to spare and didn't interfere with the PVC drain pipes. Suggest checking available space under sink before installing. Take does NOT come with the 1/2" nipples for cold water intake and hot water out take outlets. Disappointed in that! Tank provides ample hot water for our kitchen sink needs and left temp at 120 degree factory setting, which works fine for us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What the Master Bathroom Needed The master bedroom bathroom is on a side of my house where the main water heater is 3/4 of the way on the other side of the house. To use the shower stall or sink, the water had to run for 2 minutes, wasting several gallons of water. This point water heater was easily plumbed into the supply water and hot water outlets, The 110 volt hookup only needed its own dedicated plug-in outlet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2.5 gallon unit Purchased to eliminate water usage waste/wait time from hot water heater 100' away. Works great and allows enough usage for gas heater to reach this under sink unit. Put a timer on the outlet to limit working hours to just usage hours (day/evening). Only objection would be that I wished the unit was slightly smaller to fit better in the small area (perhaps 1.5-2 gallon?).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Side water pipes create larger adjustment when connecting existing pipes. They both should be on ... Side water pipes create larger adjustment when connecting existing pipes. They both should be on top. There is no water drain on the bottom of tank. If you have to drain it you need to cut lower pipe and try to connect a hose to it, very difficult and messy. The 30 / 40 gal. models can be purchased for a little more money, this doesn't seem fair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inline heater Got this inline heater to help at the point for basement bathroom/shower and kitchen sink/DW above. Now hot water does not have to run gallons before it reaches and with inline it does not take long to heat the extra gallon or 2 of cold in the line to it.
