Customer Questions & Answers

what size wire for 25 amp breaker?

Asked by: Al
This water heater is 2000 Watts. According to ohms law you divide the wattage by the voltage to attain the current. The current therefore would be 16.667 Amps. #12 THHN is good for 20 amps, and #10 THHN is good for 30 Amps, however according to the NEC NFPA-70, you cannot use over 80% of the conductor rating and the overcurrent protection device must be rated to meet the conductor's rating . Therefore you have to use #10 or above. 25 amp breakers are difficult to find unless used in commercial or industrial applications. Not to say they cannot be found or ordered, but since you're going to have to go with #10 wire to maintain code compliance you should just go ahead and install a 30 amp single throw overcurrent device (breaker). This answer comes from a Master Electrician. Good luck!

Where is the temperature control? And what is the recovery time if you run out of hot water?

Asked by: BoatGirl
Temperature control you need to open the metal jacket, and you need a flat screwdriver to turn around the temperature gauge behind the insulation

2000 watt requires 20 amp breaker. Will a dedicated 20 amp breaker and 12 gauge wire (25' long) work ?

Asked by: Bob
yes you need a dedicated 20 amp breaker, i recommend a 10 or lower gauge wire, if you are concerned on energy efficiency the smaller the cable size the better.

Performance 10 Gal. 6 Year 2000-Watt Single Element Electric Point-Of-Use Water Heater is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 86.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great. No problems I bought this 10 gal tank last summer to use as an outside shower water tank. Used it for a couple months a couple times a day. worked fine for 2 people and some times 3 people. it recovered fast. I had not problem taking a shower. We did take a rather fast shower just in case, but it worked out fine. I plan on using it again this summer. I would say if you need a small amount of hot water this is the way to go.I do feel the cost was a little to high for what I got , other than that I was happy with the water heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from direct replacement I had to replace same model that was at least 17 yrs. old. Glad to find same model with same measurements was available given long life of the one that finally quit. Fittings were also in the same place so it made connecting the unit fairly easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plug & Play! I'm not a plumber, but a determined DIY'er. I had the old one out and this one installed in a matter of hours, with nothing but a crescent wrench and a screwdriver...easy peasy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy hook up I bought this for a guest bathroom that was far away from the main water heater. Solved the problem perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Kitchen Sink heater I bought this Rheem to replace cheapo Home Depot model I'd installed 3 years earlier, but it began started leaking (from the anode area no less) and required cutting out my entire cupboard floor to dry it out. The Rheem was a bit of a tight fit, but it finally worked and has performed great ever since (1 year later). Our Kitchen Sink (like most homes) is the busiest in the house, so this unit gets lots of "exercise" to keep up....it's good for about 2 min of very hot water, and after that it's just "lukewarm" for dishwashing, etc. But WAAAYYY better than not having it at all, and better reliablity so far than past units I've looked at or owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick Hot Water Put this in-line under the kitchen sink so that we wouldn't have to wait so long for hot water. Now have hot water in just a few seconds. For the first few months there would be a small amount of air in the line every time the faucet was turned on. I contacted tech support and they didn't have an answer. For the most part, this problem has diminished to the point of not being noticeable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice unit Easy to install. One thing to consider: it has a 2000W element which requires a 25A breaker. Be sure the outlet used is rated for 25A. We changed out the element to a 1500W element so we could plug it into a standard 20A outlet. The rate of recovery will be slightly less, but it is is direct connected under a sink and 6 gallons should be plenty of volume for one sink.

It sucks! it broke down in 2 weeks and now Rheem is sending a NEW part via FEDEX of the Heating Element, now i have to DRAIN the whole tank!!! with a hose.... :=( terrible choice!! wont' recommend but neat if you have no other choice in your area... the size is very good for dishwasher and sink combination but that's it....
