Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JUS10CASE So far very good
We went with a 40 gal. instead of a 50 like we had because your kids are moved out so it's only the two of us. I changed the two before this one. The swap was the same as any gas heater, disconect, remove, install, reconnect, and check for leaks. This is the easy part. Fill, turn the "off- on" switch to on, and set the tempature. Your Done! This hot water heater doesn't have a pilot light, it turns the heater on when needed, electronicily. The flue is also openned and closed to save heat, should be econnomical. Only time will tell. Should qualify for $100 rebate, if there is any money left in fund.

The tank requires power for the heat vent, one extra unnecessary component to depend on, especially when you are out of powe.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by NeedHotWater Great product-Just a few things to know
This water heater itself is great but it is important to note that although it is a gas water heater it also needs electricity. Our plumber told us the electricity is needed for the water to be circulated, which makes the heater more efficient. Also, we found that although this is a 40 gallon heater, it was too big to fit into our 40 gallon metal shed. We had to get a bigger shed.

Because this new model has an ignition instead of a pilot light, it stuck out more in front. The heater had to to pivoted sideways to fit into the closet that the previous heater was in. All the metal tubing for the input cold water and output hot water had to be adjusted for this rotation. NONE of the measurements given accounted for the ignition system taking more space. Fortunately I spotted this before the heater was entirely installed and the workmen left. But the water had to be drainied and new tubing and plumbling bought to complete the installation. Hope it lasts longer than the warranty.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by PalmDesertHotWater Problems and NO help from Rheem
We figured out the issues but know you will get no help from Rheem. These units have a vapor sensor on them. Once the vapor sensor is triggered then you have to reset it. Now that's hard because Rheem tells you to have the unit serviced. This unit is in a weekend house 2 hours from where I live. So the thought of waiting 1/2 a day for a service guy was not a good thought. I found the reset instructions on line (Amazon reviews) and did a reset, and that saved a service.
The reset is a re-boot and then turn the unit on with the temp on hi and turn the knob from high to low 7 times (within 30 seconds) and you will hear it click. We only had no hot water for a day or two on a weekend before I found that on an Amazon review.
THEN the device triggered again...BTW we have no fumes but the space was repainted two months ago, and maybe that triggered the sensor. This second time the unit would not reset. So after reading about the sensor and learning it has to have a ohm reading between 4k - 70k, I found a ref on-line to a real fix. Remove the sensor and insert a 25 cent 1/4 watt resistor from Radio Shack between the two wires that went to the sensor. It WORKED!!
I wrote Rheem no-customer service on 6/10 asking for a new sensor to be sent but so far I only have an acknowledgement letter that they got my letter...SO 10 days later I COULD be without hot water for the past 10 days. I called HD and they said since it was past a 30 day purchase i had to keep the unit. Installing the unit was a nightmare because the space was limited and removing the unit to take it back would have been equally a nightmare. SO the lesson here is to search the internet and defeat the safety devices which don't work and don't worry because the manufacturer is not worried either. I suggested in my letter to Rheem if they were to send me a new sensor I would return my old one. BTW they sell replacement sensors on Amazon so they must be really buggy.
Also I purchased the Rheem EcoNet internet devices so I could adjust the unit remotely. I guess you can IF you only want to adjust the water temp. It never tells you if there is an issue, nor does it confirm anything SO if the unit won't start it never alerts you..you just change the water temp and hope that the unit is working and that it will actually adjust it. Hard to believe they would develop an app and have it do SO little. The app does lead you to believe it does all kinds of things..it does not.
I now hope that the unit will function properly and heat water without issues.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by PhilthyNoHo Great buy on a slow mover discounted product
Installation was very straightforward. Powered damper and non pilot ignition system require 110 plug in within 18 feet. Purchased a floor demo for almost half off, but did not realize the ignitor wire had been pulled out. Once installed, would not fire up and showed LED error code of ignition problem. Called Rheem and explained problem. They overnighted a new ignition assembly and installation took about 25 minutes. Heater fired up and providing ample hot water. An energy saver as no pilot and dampered exhaust to retain heat around core of tank when burner is not active. Very quiet too. Rheem has stood behind their product admirably.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MC Not high quality
I bought this unit 4 months ago and the unit has failed twice in the past 3 weeks. I call technical support and they say to call the gas company to check the gas pressure, which the gas company has since said there was no problem with the pressure. I call support back and they say to clean this or do this and do that, with every day that passes no hot water. Finally I asked for them to give me a number to have a technician to come out and look which I have to schedule.
If the unit was working fine for a few months and now failing intermittently there must be a bad part. Day 3 no hot water. I would return the unit if I could and I wish I would have read the customer reviews prior to purchasing, I recommend buying a different product if you have the option.
