Energy Guide also states "Capacity (1st hour rating) : 68 Gallons"

The US Government Energy Guide PDF for the XP40T12HE36U0 linked from this page also states "Capacity (1st hour rating) : 68 Gallons". Why is that?
Asked by: Buck
So there you have it! ! Rheem has now said that BOTH the linked catalog Specification of 73 gallons the first hour AND the linked Energy Guide number of 67 gallons the first hour are CORRECT! Quite an accomplishment.

68 or 73 gallons the first hour?

The XP40T12HE36U0 product description on this web page says "Delivers 68 Gal. of hot water in the first hour”. The “Specification” PDF file linked from this web page says “First Hour Delivery G.P.H. 73” for the XP40T12HE36U0. Is it 68 or is it 73 gallons the first hour?
Asked by: Buck
Looks like the unit delivers 72-86 gallons per hour. The specification sheet is correct.

Performance Platinum 40 Gal. Tall 12 Year 36,000 BTU High Efficiency Liquid Propane Water Heater is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 504.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Never run out of hot water! We bought this about 2 years ago when our old 30gal whatever brand unit went and had it's "water break" all over the basement floor. We then upgraded to this lovely 50gal unit and we haven't run out of hot water yet! We have it set low to save on cost a bit more, but we're a family of 5. Even when we're giving the girls tubs and my son jumps in the shower after, (right before I'm about to) I used to hesitate thinking of the lack of hot water available, but I was soon proved wrong by our new larger water heater. Our heat control did stop working for us a little under a year old, but they sent us out the new unit free of charge, and I had it running again in no time. Never a problem since.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleased with purchase - trouble getting anode out I replaced the original (12+ years old) water heater in our house on Oct 31, 2015 with this model (purchased from the big orange home improvement store). Usually I do a lot of research but time was limited due to a leak and my water heater is located in the attic (thank you Texas builders). Beyond the challenge of getting it into the attic I've had little issue with the water heater. I drained it one year after install and appreciate the location of the drain as it is not too close to the floor so it is easy to get a hose on it. My only complaint is I can't get the get the sacrificial anode out to check it, the nut holding it in place seems to be frozen - I'm going to have to look into it more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good fit for space We have had this hot water heater for over a year and it seems to be working well. I was concerned about the warranty because this model came from Mexico taking 11 days and if it goes out, we will be without hot water for a couple of weeks because the stores don't carry this shorter model. It does take longer to get the hot water to the kitchen and bathroom than the previous hot water heaters we have had, Since we have lived in this house for 48 years, this is the 3rd one. I understand that the insulation on the unit makes it a tight fit for the area needed but doesn't save energy because it takes more water to finally get the proper temperature. My husband has been bed bound for more than 16 months and is total care.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Installed last year. No performance issues. I purchased this Rheem to replace the Rheem that was installed in 1992. I wanted this 40 gal water heater to recirculate the hot tank water to the three fullsize upstair bathrooms too. I removed the drain plug from this unit when I bought it. With slight modifications, I added my own drain valve and added some copper tubing to the valve and connected it to the copper tubing for the rooms upstairs. I have a family of four, and after this modification it does a remarkable job delivering hot water to all areas of the house. Both upstairs and down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rheem Hot Water Gas Review Since owning my Rheem hot water heater I have had no issues. Unlike my old hot water heater (same size replacement), the Rheem has plenty of hot water for my family. I have had to do nothing to it after installing it. It is quiet and after having it for a year I can say it is reliable. The only down side to having replaced my old water heater with the Rheem, is the increased water consumption due to my teenage children enjoying a long hot shower and never wanting to get out to the shower because of the lack of hot water.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's ok. Not sure how to determine if it's great We bought this hot water heater when our previous one failed (like many other people). It provides hot water but it seems I need to keep the temperature on the unit higher than it should be. We have also noticed that every so often we will hear water running for about 5 seconds or so. We have not been able to determine where this water is going; maybe into the hot water heater or humidifier. I'd like to provide a better review but I just don't know how to judge this unit. It works or it doesn't. Sorry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great. The water heater works as advertised and I am well pleased with its performance. My only complaint is that the temperature control knob is too small and is difficult to set a desired temperature. For example, every time I reset the temperature knob from "vacation" mode to a normal setting, I have to adjust the temperature setting several times to achieve the desired hot water temperature at the tap. A larger temperature control knob with graduated markings would be a helpful improvement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water heater I bought this water heater in the winter of 2016, it was actually built for me according the assembly date. It is very efficient and I keep it set at 140 because I like hot water. I converted to gas from electric when I did this as I didn't realize just how much power my old tank used. I had one issue last fall of the pilot going out, but I think that was a supply issue from the gas company. Also, it's installed in my crawl space with a blanket, every little bit helps!
