Do you have to purchase the Wifi attachment in order for the water heater to operate and adjust the control setttingsor can one still do this manually

Wanting for the 12 year warranty and efficiency, not to have to adjust through iffy Wifi connection at times.

You don't need to purchase the WiFi attachment to operate this water heater or to adjust the operation (on or off) or the water temperature. I don't have the WiFi attachment, and my Rheem Platinum Performance 38 gallon water heater works just fine to automatically heat water for my home.

This heater has connections on top for hot and cold water hoses. Do I need dielectric connections?

Yes. The connections that come with the water heater are not dielectrically isolated. The installer will need to purchase and install dielectric connections to isolate the heater and address the potential for dielectric corrosion.

Do I need to plug this natural gas water heater to an electric plug?

Where The Performance Platinum 38 Gal.is the perfect size for our small closet, but does not have a electric plug. I know we do not need the Wi Fi to operate the water heater. I am replacing my 30 yr. gas water heater. Thank you

So far the unit is working alright but I am extremely disappointed in Rheem. I bought the unit from home depot brought it home and had a licensed plumber install the Rheem unit. He could not get it to turn on and after checking all of the electrical outlets determined that the unit itself was not working. We called the manufacturer number listed on the front of the heater and they told us that they would have a rep call me "within a day or so." The agent at Rheem said "Oh yes we''ve had a lot of calls on this model. The electrical wires need to be replaced." Long story but I had to wait 8 days to get the part shipped to me from Rheem and have someone come and install it. That is 2 days off work, 8 days without this brand new unit working like it was supposed to., Very disappointed.

Have had this heater one and a half years, the inflammable sensor is constantly coming on which turns off the heater. This happens when I wash clothes or when there is no activity in laundry room. It is installed in my laundry room with washer and dryer NO inflammable material in my room!!! This happens four to six times a week. You have to check the beautiful blinking light before you wash dishes or clothes and before taking a shower. If you called a repairman every time it would cost thousands of dollars a year. You must unplug unit from wall, turn off heater and turn temp gage to zero. Then plug unit back into wall turn on unit and turn temp gage from zero to B quickly at least six or seven times. If this doesn't work repeat until it does

The boxing of the heater was substantial with no damages. The power chord for the electronic ignition was generously long for easy connection to an outlet. The replacement of the existing heater was even easier with the use of push on fittings for the copper pipe re-connection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Water heater was easy to install and has worked fine out of the box. The pipe nipples on the top... Water heater was easy to install and has worked fine out of the box. The pipe nipples on the top of the unit appeared to be steel - I expected brass on a 12 year unit. The cord for the wall wart transformer was plenty long to reach an existing receptacle in my garage. The top of the water heater was smashed in about a half inch. As the cardboard box had no damage, I assume someone dropped it on it's side at the factory. I have read other reviewers mention similar damage. Hopefully the insulation sandwiched under the metal cover cushioned the blow some and the damage is only cosmetic. I decided not to go through the hassle of returning it. If it makes hot water without any fuss for at least ten years, I will be pleased.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Controller failed after 7 months I bought it for a new house seven months ago, and it was fine until this morning. At noon, no more hot water. The error code indicated a faulty controller. On the web-site for this model, it says "Electronic gas control for improved monitoring and service" What a joke. I have multiple rental units with non-electronic controls on their water heaters, never a problem with them for many years. This new and improved one failes after seven months. Probably some EPA requirement killing the old reliable controllers. Thank you for the cold showers tomorrow.

The wifi add on was a very nice touch as I feel this will just allow better adjustment of temperature if ever needed. I do look forward to automating the vacation schedule...maybe using it a few hours every night and link it to overall home presence to save even more energy

I purchased this unit, a Rheem Performance Platinum 38 gallon water heater, on 12Mar2017 and installed it that day. When I turned it on, it didn't work; a dark diagnostic light, no gas ignition and no water heating. I called Rheem's support hotline the next day, and their representative quickly walked me through a diagnostic procedure that identified the wall power supply as defective. Rheem shipped me a wall power supply next-day on warranty. I installed it and the water heater is working well. I'm pleased with the support I received, and how easy it was to install the water heater. I'm disappointed with the parts that were shipped with the unit and the quality policy of the company. Rheem didn't ask for the defective part back for failure analysis. How can the supplier of these parts prevent this defect from occurring again if they have no idea why this part failed? This practice does not meet my expectations.
