Does the diameter of 23 inches include attachments or is this for the tank only?

Are there legs on this water heater and if so what is their height?

Is the mark down of $100 from $788 to $688 the instant rebate or just a sales price?

Online it says, "Was $788" and now priced at $688. I applied for an application with SDGE for the $100 rebate and was denied. They are claiming I received an instant rebate at point of purchase, yet it was not stated on receipt, nor was it advertised in the isle above water heater. Please advise...thank you.
Asked by: JKR
The SDG&E form says Home Depot instantly rebates the $100 on Rheem water heaters. Course now the heater "was $809" and now is $709 so looks like you already got a better deal.

Can you use a UPS (battery backup) so that it can provide hot water during power outage?

Review say that if you lose power, you lose hot water. How much electricity does it draw? Can I add a 1000 VA UPS as a backup in case I lose power?

Will this fit a space of 23'x26'x60'?
Asked by: Isaak
Yes you really have to study this if this unit was an eight of an inch taller I would have had to redesign the exhaust. But that is not difficult ...scary but not difficult. The exhaust is the only part that may require some know how also remember it can kill you so pay attention think it through I saved 22houndred dollars by doing it my self was I scared oh yes but I sat back and figured it out.

Performance Platinum 50 Gal. Tall 12 Year 36,000 BTU ENERGY STAR Ultra Low NOx Natural Gas Water Heater is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 201.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Water heater failed to light upon initial installation. Home Depot would not remove, pick it up... Water heater failed to light upon initial installation. Home Depot would not remove, pick it up and exchange it for another one. Cost for my plumber to uninstall it and re-install another one was $400. Rheem sent out repair person who had to order a new control module and new damper. We had to be without hot water for 4 days while waiting for parts. Repair person said this model is notorious for failure. He recommended a standard, non electronic water heater with pizzo electric igniter. It would be cheaper in the long run to spend monthly on a pilot light than to pay for high labor and parts costs for electronics that will break long before the water heater rusts out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor operation, poor Rheem customer service Tank installed in August 2015 by professional plumber. Although it was operational right away 24 hours later the burner would not light and the tank appeared to be leaking from the top. I called Rheem and they gave me instructions to reset/re-light the burner which worked and explained that the leak was due to our warm and humid weather and that it was not a leak but condensation which is natural when the tank is first installed. After another 24 hours the "condensation/leak" went away, the tank stayed lit and everything worked fine UNTIL February 28, 2016. February 28 at 10 PM went to take shower and found there was no hot water. I went to the tank and the blue LED (indicator) light was flashing a code (3, 6, 3, 6, ...) indicating either a gas or venting issue. After several attempts I was able to ignite the burner. The following day I had the same problem but again was able to reset/re-light the burner after numerous attempts. That lasted about 8 hours and it failed to light again. I called Rheem and they told me I had a possible gas problem and had I checked the gas pressure? I replied how was I suppose to do that and insisted they send someone to check my tank. They reluctantly agreed. After several fowl ups an authorized Rheem plumber arrived on March 4 and told me the sensor at the bottom of the tank was partially covered by the drip pan and that was probably the problem. Interesting that this partial coverage of the sensor had been that way since the installation in August 2015 and now is was a problem... He cut a section of that plastic drip pan away and did nothing else EXCEPT advised me that he has seen problems before with this particular model and have replaced a couple because they were defective. On March 4 at 6 PM the tank failed again. I called Rheem and "Supervisor Brian" told me he would send out a new gas valve (or something like that) but that would take at least 4 days (it was over the weekend) and that was the best he/Rheem could do. When I became a little irritated at him and the situation he hung up on me! I got the tank lit late that night and so far this morning (March 5) it is still on and operating. If this issue continues I will fight for a new tank. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS MODEL DUE TO NOT ONLY THE ABOVE LISTED PROBLEMS BUT ALSO DUE TO RHEEM'S LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was told by both Rheem and Home Depot that if the tank were to be replaced I would be responsible for the labor and yet this is exactly the opposite that I was told by a Rheem representative back in August 2015, namely, that if the tank were defective Rheem would cover the removal and installation of a replacement tank. We'll see if this becomes a reality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Water heater is poor product, warranty is worthless, Rheem customer service is useless 5 years into my 12 year warranty the pressure valve shot out of the water heater and hot water flooded my home. My independent plumber (he will earn nothing on my replacement purchase) told me that the glass had cracked inside the tank and that a new valve would not resolve the problem. After speaking to 4 "agents" by phone for 30 minutes (most of it hold time) I was told that they would send me a new valve ($8 value) or I could file a claim. 3 of the agents were impolite. Home Depot, the retailer that sold the product, would not assist. My replacement has been purchased at Lowe's.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Energy Star Performer Initially the unit would not start up due to a faulty flammable-vapor detector. Rheem's local contract plumber came out and replaced the bad component within a day and a half, and the unit has performed flawlessly ever since (in service now 15 months). It has no noticeable impact on our electric bill, and on standby at 120-125 degrees appears to use less than 0.1 therms of gas/day. It is very quiet when heating. The installation involved adding an electrical outlet and modifying the plumbing (it is shorter and wider than the previous unit), which was most of the work. Installation of the water heater itself was easy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product with one flaw Bought this a year ago and performance wise I have had no issues. Easy to install and set up. It works perfectly but there is one major set back. It must be connected to an electrical outlet at all times. Trust me when I say that if there is NO POWER then it DOES NOT WORK! If you accidently disconnect it or you have a power outage then the water heater will cease to work until power is restored. I do not like and agree with this feature. When I purchased it at Home Depot, they failed to mention this to me and I thought the power was just for some advanced feature but it is not. The electrical plug sends power to the unit and it controls the igniter to start the burner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very efficient Purchased one year ago very quiet quick and efficient. But is not California approved when I turned in my rebate form it was rejected? So I spoke to the department in charge and they informed me my hot water heater was too large for California I would have to purchase a smaller water heater that was approved and start using less water? Even though my Gas bill dropped 33% and my water consumption has never been an issue , I installed low - flow sprinklers front and back. All of our homes were built new with 75 gl water heater . Isn't Socialism Great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good I am happy with this water heater, it is efficient and works quickly. Not sure if there is a correlation, but our PG&E bill decreased this month. My only complaint is that the temperature is a little difficult to manage. If I turn it down a hair, it's too cold, if I turn it back up, we're scalded. They need to add a digital thermostat. This replaces a gas hot water heater that worked flawlessly for 17 years! And we used that thing every single day for all 17 of them. We couldn't replace it with the same one so we are giving Rheem a chance.
