I bought it, I installed it, it works. I had hot water less than one day after my old water heater unexpectedly stopped working. It's a hot water heater, not rocket science, so I can't imagine anything I could want such a simple appliance to do other than to work and have no problems, so I give it 5 stars.
But there's a bonus! It also has two blue LEDs that tell you when each of the two heating elements is on. You can be entertained for hours watching the algorithm that cycles between the heating elements in action! "Honey - use some hot water! I want to see which blue LED comes on first again!"

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Wayfar Performing as expected so far.
I installed this heater around the middle of June 2015, so it is too early to give a fair evaluation yet. SO FAR, SO GOOD. The outer case did have a bad crease at the top edge. The box did not appear damaged so I have to assume this was done at the factory. I had already drained and removed the old heater so went ahead and installed this one--I hope I do not regret that decision.
I will say that this heater is performing well. If this continues, this heater will prove to be a great value.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by magic7 My water stinks
The instruction manual is wrong regarding the indicator lights on the front of the heater. After quite a while on Hold, I was able to talk to a representative that said the reason the lights were indicating a problem with the heater is that all three lights will NEVER be on at the same time - so the malfunction that was being indicated was actually the heater working properly. They need to correct the manual.
The heater does a good job heating my water, but since putting this one in, my hot water STINKS. I never had a problem with my old heater having any odor, but this one is just nasty-smelling. I sent a request for an answer to my problem 3 weeks ago, and have not heard from Rheem yet. Their customer support is not good.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by eugene89us Decent water heater, heats water quickly.
Purchased this water heater after the 21-year-old water heater started leaking. The heater has the same capacity as the old one, but is a little wider, though quite a bit lighter than old. Not sure if that means it is made of lower quality components, which is likely. The hardest part was getting the water heater into the attic, but it fit well through the opening (although barely so and got a little scratched when trying to get it through). Started making water in 5 minutes, resulting in a nice hot shower. At the factory setting produces quite hot water, so no adjustments were needed. Has been working for a few weeks, we will keep our eyes on it. So far looks like a good purchase!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by homeowner6 Solid basic water heater
Only had this a few weeks, but it outperforms my last water heater. I like the LED because it tells me when it is on (I put it on a timer) and when it is reheating, which is not very often. The anode in the middle is a plus for hard water. Very basic, does the trick, stays warm long. Even when I had 7 guests, no one ran out of hot water.

This 40 gallon water heater was a wise investment. The warranty on the Rheem water heater is for 9 years. Believe me you will be pleased with the performance of this heater as it also has an led light to keep you aware of how much hot water usage is utilize.

I ordered and paid for this online the day before I picked it up. It took all of ten minutes to go in, show my documentation and have help putting it in my truck.
I, with my son's assistance installed it the next day. Cut the water supply into the heater, drained the old heater, then cut the pvc lines to and from it.
Smoothed the rough edges on the pvc, and used Shark Bite lines to hook up. Screwed the 3/4 FIP end to the water heater and then pushed the other ends onto the pvc pipes. It was a water tight fit.
The electrical hookup was extremely simple
After filling the heater we flipped the breaker and re-enabled the electricity. What the directions don't tell you is that only one electrode will operate at a time. When first powered up the top electrode will be active. After it's heated to the right temp the bottom electrode will activate.
Nothing could have been easier with this and so far, no problems.

Worked great right out of the Box. Installation was very easy.
It took a week to get it shipped into the store but was well worth the wait.
