Answer:
No, it does not. My installation was in the basement so I elevated the water heater with a few construction bricks. Installation in a garage or any area where gas or combustible vapors are present requires a raised mounting base. Please check your local codes for the proper height of the base.

Answer:
Teflon tape or Pro-dope (it is a brush on pipe compound). Black iron pipe needs to go all the way to the heater. Do NOT use galvanized, plastic, copper etc.

Hello scotta,
Two good options are the #5 pipe thread sealant or the Yellow PTFE Tape. I've included links to both below. I hope this helps.

It's hard to say that your water heater needs to be replaced. I would have someone come out and take a look at your unit if you are experiencing problems with your water heater. It could be as simple as replacing a part.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 460 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Home Depot is the Greatest!!! I purchased a Rheem 40gal gas Water Heater. This was the top rated water heater based on many internet reviews(Home Depot carries the BEST products available). Installation was straight forward and very easy based on Home Depot's pro help. It was so nice to get the staff at Home Depot to get all the items needful for an easy, professional installation. The water heater has a factory warranty and what is so great is that I piked up locally and if there were any needs I had a friendly and courteous Home Depot just down the street that I could rely on. Thanks Home Depot for being a community store and providing the best prices locally. August 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hot Water Heater Eventually it comes to all of us...having to replace a hot water heater. For me, it is the third time it has happened to me, since I have three units and my house is 45 years old. With some trepidation, I changed brands due to the longer warranty, and I have been very pleased...so pleased, in fact, that I now have bought a second unit and should the other heater go out, I will purchase another one. I highly recommend this brand in general, and this model in particular. August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Huge disappointment! Easy install and took my time to insure no water leaks and gas line connect thoroughly. Looked really nice installed and that was about it! Family was excited once all hooked up and installed. Went to light pilot and nothing happened after following instructions several times. Took longer talking to the tech to tell me the thermostat wiring to the controller is bad and needs to be replaced. They are sending a tech out, but not till Monday! It is Saturday and have to go 2 more days with no hot water. A product right out of the box should work! How does a company send products out the door knowing they are defective? We had a Rheem previously that was a 6 year warranty and lasted 10 years before the tank rotted out. Never had any problems in all those years and decided to stick with this brand. Not to mention made in America. Read all the reviews and 90 percent were 5 star reviews saying great things. Of course I have to be part of the 10 percent that happened to buy a unit that does not work after install. Huge disappointment. April 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk water heater Replaced operating but old tank water heater with this model. Pilot would not light. Contacted Rheem and told them no gas was reaching the combustion chamber (Thursday). Rheem overnighted a new gas valve that did not arrive until Monday. Installed new gas valve on Tuesday, and still no gas in combustion chamber - so I call Rheem again, they tell me it's unlikely to have 2 bad gas valve assemblies and to check the gas pressure. Pressure is fine entering the valve, nothing coming out when pilot button is depressed. Rheem agrees to overnight a third gas valve. Install new gas valve Wednesday (actually overnight this time) and have the same problem - no gas which means I can't light the pilot. So after not having hot water for a week I redrain the water heater and return it to Home Depot. I buy a different brand install it with no issue - lights in seconds and generates hot water. Bottom line is this water heater is garbage, but Home Depot was awesome and didn't fight me at all returning it (I did have the receipt). August 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BE WARE OF THIS PRODUCT! I purchased this heater and got everything installed. My tenants wentfire it up...the pilot wont light. Rheem tech support tells me the thermostat wiring to the controller is bad and needs to be replaced. This part shipped but was returned because FED EX tried to deliver it to the wrong addres. A I've spent so much money in the last 2 months installing and repeated plumbers to relight this unit. NOW after waiting a month to get a new part reinstalled, it doesn't work. Home Depot doesn't help because THEIR men didn't install it. August 6, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Had to Return The purchasing part went well but when opening after getting it home the water tank was bent on the bottom causing it to not sit level, I had to borrow a vehicle for the second time to return it, there didn't seem to be any indication by the box that it was damaged. It would have been nice if I was offered a little discount for my troubles. August 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Extended life, Don't know? It works for the time being. Ask me in a few years if the extended life was worth the extra money. It looks nice in the garage. Very heavy to put on stand. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Consider Product is working as it should. Writing this review because I want others to consider hiring a plumber themselves instead of using Home Depot Installers. My water tank cost $518. Installation was $438. I'm just saying. The positive of Home Depot is they backed the installation and it had to be correct and I had to be satisfied because there was some difficulty in my install. July 3, 2016
