For example: your water temperature (in Atlanta) is 55°

Will this work to replace a 50 gallon electric water heater?

I'm looking to convert to a tankless water heater. My home has a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a jacuzzi. Will this product work for the conversion or do i need to go bigger? If so, what's the next size up?
Asked by: Nadia
The flow rate (gallons per minute) at 120 degrees depends on the incoming water temperature. If you water temperature is 40 degrees and you need 120 degrees you maximum flow rate for this unit is about 1 ½ gallons a minute. . The RETE-18 or 27 is designed for fast, continuous hot water in a bathroom addition/renovation or single shower. Follow this web link for specification sheet for out tankless products. http://goo.gl/1nluj7

Is this unit large enuff for a single bath with shower and sink used by two adults ?

Asked by: leakytank2
Yes, the unit can supply water for a single bath. The question is how cold is your incoming water? I live in Colorado, where the cold water is very cold in the winter, and the unit cannot meet the demand for a bath. I have a 1.5 gpm showerhead, and the unit has no trouble supplying steaming hot water for a shower. When the unit works, that is.

Looking at this for a hunting cabin

Can this be used in a situation where the water to the cabin is turned off for periods when there is no one there. Water could be off for 3 months at a time. Electric would also cut off.
Asked by: Debbie
Yes, as long as the power is turned off, as with any water heater it can be turned off for extended periods of time.

Does this water heater regulate the temperature?

Does this water heater regulate the temperature output? For example, if you are using it and you reduce the water flow, does it reduce the heating power to compensate so that the output temperature stays about the same? The cheap lousy atmor heaters don't have any regulation so if the water flow is reduced, you get hotter water, and if the flow is increased, you get a burst of hotter water before getting cooler water.
Asked by: lamp
Yes. You can turn up or down.

I've replaced this unit twice in the last 3 years due to the electronic controller breaking down. It does so just when the 1-year warranty has expired. When it is working, I'm very pleased.

I was expecting to be on the low end of the $30 - $40 dollars cause i had 4500w one burner. I didn't realize how old and inefficient it was. It might have been costing me $45 a month. $60-$70/month on the home depot card would pay it and everything (including a toilet) off in less than 6 months with no interest, but i'm going to pay it $40/month. Build my credit for free. Get it all paid off just a few months before my house. The card comes with a no hassle guarantee, so that means the will be kissing my but for that year and half too. I must say the marion store have been doing a good of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good For Cabin Use Good product--bought 2 ( one for each Montana cabin). We are average do-it -yourselfers. Works well for our needs, however, can only use one hot water application at a time for how we have it hooked up. Electrical hookup is confusing in that the pigtail is #8 wire when it needs to be hooked up with #6 wire. Works reliably and provides adequate hot water for a shower after hunting. To adjust water temperature, you must turn on hot first, then adjust with cold. Overall good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised Needed water heater for a cabin my wife and I updating. Added bathroom and kitchen to cabin. Was told by local plumber that this would not work for what we needed. I installed it, and it works better than we ever expected. The pre-set temp of "Medium" was scolding hot so we turned the temp down. Make sure you read the instructions before. No need for 1/2 in female connecters, just straight 1/2 in copper tubing with included couplers. Easy to install, and I actually put a frame around it in bathroom. Installation of the electrical was easier. Wife took looooong hot shower and never loss temp and I took one afterwards and never got cold once.

I opened it up and noticed red lead wire from buss bar to SCR was detached from screw. I re-attached and worked fine. Internal breaker popped twice at hottest setting. Went to 75% hot and working fine for 1 week. My fingers are crossed. This is a fine unit. I own 3. Have taken apart 4 other brands and the workmanship on Rheem is superior (except this one). You ask why I opened it? Answer. Clear troubleshooter detail online and removing cover was 10X easier than removing unit from wall (plumbing and electric),

Make sure your breaker can handle that. My 40 amp breaker kept popping. I put in the largest breaker I could find at home depot (50 amp) and that helped. No more popping the breaker but the lights flicker when it's heating. The water doesn't get that hot if you have to run the line anything more than a few feet. I run it to a shower and a sink. It's HOT at the sink but only WARM at the shower which is farther away. I will be upgrading to a gas model in the near future.

Overall, I would estimate that the Rheem tankless has saved my family about $30-$40 per month. I do not have to heat water just to have "hot" water on tap! It only heats when needed! Also, use a water regulator on your home, or else the water may take a long time to "turn" on to heat. Very easy to install, hardest part was removing the old tank heater. Also, I put this under the house in a cellar. Now I have more room inside the home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best little heater for the money!! I've been using this as a shop water heater in my 40x30 4 stall garage with a 28 x 30 apartment above. It is all I need to run a shower with endless hot water including 2 sinks and laundry. Impressive super compact design, I followed directions for proper installation using the copper pipe as recommended to PEX and have used it steadily for 2 years straight, no issues. It is wall mounted close to the sink and shower with the other sink at a 30 foot distance and still provides hot water without waiting too long at that one. Water flow has never suffered just as strong as the cold feed. Adjustable heat setting which never has to be turned all the way up to the max heating range. The water would be scalding in that range! Even with well water coming in at sometimes 40-50 degrees from the ground, the heating efficiency of this unit consistently makes the water hot at it's optimal setting. Which is almost at it's lowest setting! I've also added a hot water line with an external wall spigot for using hot water while pressure washing outside! Greasy parts snow and ice removal...very nice! I have told people that this is by far the best little water heater i've ever bought. Hands down!
