Questions & Answers

Will this work to replace a 50 gallon electric water heater?

I'm looking to convert to a tankless water heater. My home has a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a jacuzzi. Will this product work for the conversion or do i need to go bigger? If so, what's the next size up?
Asked by: Nadia
The flow rate (gallons per minute) at 120 degrees depends on the incoming water temperature. If you water temperature is 40 degrees and you need 120 degrees you maximum flow rate for this unit is about 1 ½ gallons a minute. . The RETE-18 or 27 is designed for fast, continuous hot water in a bathroom addition/renovation or single shower. Follow this web link for specification sheet for out tankless products. http://goo.gl/1nluj7

Is this unit large enuff for a single bath with shower and sink used by two adults ?

Asked by: leakytank2
Yes, the unit can supply water for a single bath. The question is how cold is your incoming water? I live in Colorado, where the cold water is very cold in the winter, and the unit cannot meet the demand for a bath. I have a 1.5 gpm showerhead, and the unit has no trouble supplying steaming hot water for a shower. When the unit works, that is.

Looking at this for a hunting cabin

Can this be used in a situation where the water to the cabin is turned off for periods when there is no one there. Water could be off for 3 months at a time. Electric would also cut off.
Asked by: Debbie
Yes, as long as the power is turned off, as with any water heater it can be turned off for extended periods of time.

Does this water heater regulate the temperature?

Does this water heater regulate the temperature output? For example, if you are using it and you reduce the water flow, does it reduce the heating power to compensate so that the output temperature stays about the same? The cheap lousy atmor heaters don't have any regulation so if the water flow is reduced, you get hotter water, and if the flow is increased, you get a burst of hotter water before getting cooler water.
Asked by: lamp
Yes. You can turn up or down.

RETE-13 - 13kW 1.97 GPM Tankless Electric Water Heater is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 353.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised Needed water heater for a cabin my wife and I updating. Added bathroom and kitchen to cabin. Was told by local plumber that this would not work for what we needed. I installed it, and it works better than we ever expected. The pre-set temp of "Medium" was scolding hot so we turned the temp down. Make sure you read the instructions before. No need for 1/2 in female connecters, just straight 1/2 in copper tubing with included couplers. Easy to install, and I actually put a frame around it in bathroom. Installation of the electrical was easier. Wife took looooong hot shower and never loss temp and I took one afterwards and never got cold once.

Stopped working September 26,2017. Computer regulator dead. It's great when it works and saves so much space for my 2 bed/2bath condo in FL. Now Home Depot doesn't carry it. I notice there are newer models costing more now. Converting from tank to tankless has already cost me, now I must spend more to get product replaced. Rheem did give me Return Merchandise number and I can return it to HD locally, and then what?

I live alone, and it only provides hot water for washing dishes and for my shower. Once I got used to how it operates, and adjusted the setting to my liking, I have been very pleased with capacity, speed at which it heats, etc. Works beautifully for me! Been using it now for about ten days. Takes very little space, does the job well, and doesn't keep water hot the many hours per day that I don't need hot water!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great price for this product, lots of usable space after installation The unit is small but powerful .After my wife and I installed the unit we had tons of space under are kitchen cabinet for extra pots and pans. This unit provides plenty of continuous hot water to kitchen sink witch is 2 feet away and bathroom fixtures witch are 20 feet away! It currently can raise the ground water temperature from 57.7 degrees ferenheight to 150 degrees ferenheight, The temperature adjustment knob is perfectly placed and clearly marked for user friendly changes. It may be wise to install anti scalding device if you have children and or elderly in the house hold. I did"nt do the math but I"am sure this unit will save me 10 to 20 dollars a month in electricity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value I live in an area without natural gas, just propane or electrcity. When my propane water heater died, I viewed it as an opportunity to go both tankless & electric. Propane has followed gasoline pricewise- ever increasing. What I used to get for 79 cents/gal. now is $4. Electricity has only risen slightly. This water heater supplies the whole house, and I notice no difference in hot water supply, other than its now endless! With sharkbite fittings to convert from 1/2" pipe to 3/4" supply lines, installation was easy. I also like no pilot light, concern over gas leaks or carbon monoxide poisoning. Plus I live in Calif., so no worries over an earthquake toppling a huge heavy tank with its water & gas supplies rupturing. Works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value Not just a point of use water heater. I use this as my whole house water heater. For 1 or 2 person households in the south, it is an extremely inexpensive and space saving alternative to a conventional tank model water heater. You don't really want to take a shower while something else is using hot water, but I always felt that was true for a tank heater as well. I had to have my electric panel upgraded, which I paid a pro to do, but actually installing the heater isn't that difficult for an experienced do-it-yourselfer comfortable with plumbing and wiring. The best feature of the tankless heaters, in my opinion, is that the supply of hot water is unlimited. You need a long hot shower for a stiff back? No Problem. Two people need to take showers one right after the other? No Problem. Do a load of wash with hot water right after? No Problem. You never have to wait for that whole tank to heat again or finish a shower with cold water. Saves money with the electric bill, too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super happy Replaced my traditional tank water heater and saves us money on our electric bill. The water gets as hot as you need and gets hot FAST. My only complaint is the water temperature will occasionally fluctuate (losing heat) while taking a shower, but it's only a minor irritation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outperforms suggested uses Keeping in mind I do plumbing and electrical work, so I didn't have any costs there other than materials, it was easy to install. We have a small two-story house, single bath upstairs and this unit is it my basement. No problems at all...it takes about the same amount of time to get hot water to the furthest run, but once it gets there it's just as hot and stays hot. Full use here is 1 shower, 3 sinks, and a dishwasher. I would and have recommended them. If there is a word of caution, be sure about your electric service. This unit requires a 60 Amp line and seems to use it.
