Customer Questions & Answers

Will this unit work on a 208volt system?

Asked by: Sam1
Yes, but not quite as well as with the full 240 volts. Multiply amps times voltage to see how many Kw worth of performance you will get. 122 times 208 = 25.376 Kw. Still very powerful.

I was told that this unit would not work in Ohio due to our cold ground water temp. I just put in a new bathroom with tub and wanted to get rid of my 30 gallon WHand install this unit. Will this work? If not could I run this unit in series with my WH in the new bathroom?
Asked by: Chrisnow1
As long as this serves only your bathroom and you are not trying to run the shower and faucet at the same time, this unit will work.

I bought this unit and the RETE - 18 four years ago after using thier chart to find the appropriate model. The RETE - 18 broke after about one month which was replaced free but I had to pay another installation charge. My RETE-27 just broke this week and am told I need a new heating element which is hard to find. I find it difficult to believe that with Rheem still selling this product that it does not make parts readily available. Rheem rep told me I was out of luck since the one year warranty period has ended. I don't know if other brands have similar issues. Buyer beware!

Probably a great product but description wasn't clear to my plumber that this would require 2 completely separate 220v circuits. Fine for new construction but we couldn't use it and had to return. next smaller unit also requires 2 circuits although smaller. We ended up with the RETE-13 which will only give us warm water during winter months but we decided that will be ok.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great We built a small cabin at 2,200 feet elevation. We did not want a tank water heater to have to drain each winter. We researched the reviews on all the tankless electric heaters and this one had the most consistent results. We purchased the 27 kw model knowing the ground water temperature from our well in winter would be a challenge and we have more than enough hot water to handle a shower and washing machine running at the same time. This product met all our requirements. Saved space in a small cabin, no draining 40 gallons for winter and it provides hot water in the same time a tank heater takes to get the water to the tap. All things considered an excellent purchase for us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best thing i've bought in years. works great and never runs out. i bought the 27k electric rheem tankless water heater in feb. the installation was easier than expected. the hardest part was working with the 6 gage wire. don't try wire nuts, use the wire clamps that can be tightened. you should also use a large enough box to give space to work with the wiring and keep the clamps from touching. the plumbing is a piece of cake. be sure and put a shutoff on the cold water line just before it goes into the tank. after the plumbing ts done, let all of the hot water lines run for a few minutes to bleed the air and check for leaks. now you can let the wife go shower without her complaining about running out of hot water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy, Easy, Easy Works great for my 2 bath house. Solar installed and bill is still zeroed out. Gas bill cut in half. I installed the unit myself, wiring and plumbing. I don't do these for a living but have an understanding and respect. I had to adjust the flow for the faucet for my tub. 2 showers work great. More room in garage now!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A real improvement over tank type heater The product works great for our house, which has two bathrooms. There is plenty of hot water for showers, or baths. It may take a little longer to regulate, but the results are worth it. My only question is how long will it last. The workmanship, especially the wiring, looks suspect. I had a hard time connecting the #6 wires to the terminal strips. The terminal strips had only one screw holding each of them when they should have had two each.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from THIS PRODUCT GETS IT DONE! GREAT PRODUCT. THE 27KW IS FOR A WHOLE HOUSE AND THIS SHOULD BE REMEMBERED. THE 18KW IS TOO SMALL FOR 2 BATHS. THE INSTALLATION WAS PRETTY STRAIGHT UP. IT REQUIRES 2 6 WIRE AND 2 DOUBLE POLL 60AMP BREAKERS. ONE THING THEY DON'T MENTION IS IT WILL CAUSE YOUR LIGHTS TO FLICKER DUE TO THE HUGE AMOUNT OF ELECTRIC REQUIRED TO FIRE THE UNIT. OTHER THAN THAT IT GETS THE JOB DONE.
